Brake Pads and Disks - Suppliers

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looikng to change my 110k miler disks for standard ones and pads for greenstuff.

Any recomendations on where to buy the parts only.  Prices seem to vary quite a lot.

Is there a place that everyone is using at the moment, or is it just via googleing and having a look around

Cheers

Lee

Try euro car parts or carparts4less they seem to be fairly competitive with the price.

ECP had a deal on last week. Not sure if its finished now..

There'll usually always be an ECP deal on :)

Also try the deal code anyway, as they don't always expire when they say!

Not sure I'd use Greenstuff pads either, but that's another story.

Thanks - Wardy, so what are your thought on pad selection then.

I also want to replace the disks, but dont know the sizes and cant find the chart on here that decodes all of the codes in the front of the service manual.

OE spec Pagid pads from Euro, perfectly acceptable and will be about 40 quid with one of Euro's discount codes. Think the Octavia is a bit big for Greenstuff.

What about disc sizes.  i think its worth changing those as well.

Change sizes?  From?  to?

What problem are you trying to address?

I just want to replace the Discs on there with a new set.  Just standard ones will do fine.

As its on orininal disks with 115K (ish) and i do about 500 per week.

Thyr still have a litte life in them, but a mate is going to show me how to change the pads, and I though by changing the part worn disks as well, it not only refreshes them, but i can learn that bit whilst the wheels are off.  Its probalby dead easy, but im the sort of bloke who measures twice cuts once then has to buy a new bit cos is still FKD it up.

So i just want to replace the existing mostly worn standard disks with new ones of the same size.  There seems to be an awfull lot of difference in disc size.

I have an 08 VRS 170 PD Octavia Estate if that helps.

Just ordered an ARB Kit on the group buy from Alex, and he confirmed that my rear disks are 282 and fronts are 312

Pagid Brake Pads (Front) Part Nos.: 101440678 This says for Disc diameter 280

Pagid Brake Pads (Rear) Part Nos.: 101440328 This says for Disc diameter 253 - Do you think these will fit ok or be too small.

You'll need pads correct for the 312mm front disc on the vRS.

I'd go Pagid or Mintex for pads myself. Don't rate Greenstuff at all, I'll never use them again.

As said, you'll get some good prices from ECP.

Pagid 101441138 for 312mm discs, 101441178 for the 282 rears.

ECP also sell Textar and ATE which I would also be happy to use.

Am i getting confused then.  Whats the part number for the rears. 282 mm

Looks like i am picking the wrong options.

Its soooo much easier getting the garage to do it but sooooooo much more expensive :-)

Don't forget if you are doing the rears that you will require a suitable wind-back tool for the rear.

Yep thats in hand, thanks

If its an Octy you will need Red Stuff Pads for the Weight! The car is too big for greens.

P.S. they are a new formula and this has improved the bite from cold and the dust residue on your alloys i have them fitted to my Octy and they are pretty good. Iv'e used them all on various cars at some stage and Pagid are very good for a budget pad.

I rate them in this order:

Tarox

Red Stuff

Mintex

Pagid

Green Stuff

OEM

Although the red and green stuff are by far the best when it comes to Dust on alloys. They hardly have any residue which is my

primary consearn now i don't do track days much anymore.

Thaks,

i think i have decided on Pagid.  Just trying to find the right part numbers :-(

Yep done that and i get a list of loads.

even posted a couple of part numbers earlier (see below) and i just gives me stuff that looks like its not relevant.

Pagid Brake Pads (Rear) Part Nos.: 101440328 This says for Disc diameter 253 - Do you think these will fit ok or be too small.

Octavia mkII Pre FL

Front 101441138

Rear 101441778

Hope this helps

Personally I would get these:

Front 929441031 (DP31517C)

Rear 929441041 (DP31324C)

Pagid aren't a budget pad, they're an OE pad (IMO). Apec, Eicher and the like are budget pads. Pagid, to me, are on the same level as Jurid, Bosch and other OE stuff.

Top Job Scribbler,

thanks everyone else for your time and effort.

I fitted the following front discs & pads to my vrs from ECP (Pagid) the part no's are Discs- 104441508 £39.34p & Pads- 101441138 £11.34p  & they are fine. (prices are cheap as my pal works for ecp)

Not sure if there are different grades of Pagid pad.  I have the ones, with matching discs, which came from a Scirroco sporty thing which had been wrapped round a lamp post at 108 miles.

Not too much dust, no noticable noise and work well.  A spirited traverse with a very well laden estate across the Alps a few times and still no fade (unlike the previous factory installation).  Wear is very good on both disc and pad.  30,000  miles, still 1/2 pad left.  No lip on disc yet.

Down sides?  Lots of normal light use eventually causes a bit of what may be glazing, they still work fine of course but it becomes less sensitive to modulation.   A decent application of right foot eliminates this.
