Stage 2 power and beyond - Insurance?

Featured Replies

If flux use another company isnt it worth ringing that other company they found cheapest for you direct and cut out the middle man? Surely they will be taking a cut of that price for themself or is that not how it works?

I don't think you can contact most of them direct.

I went with Sky in the end - I paid slightly more aswell, but they are very good IMO.

Great, thanks for your custom Joe.

A mate if a mate called luke works for sky. Sorted me out a few years ago. Never changed since. Sky always beaten everyone else for me.

I got quoted 475 with all mods declared fully comp with 3 points with adrian flux I told them a was bigger turbo and map told them it would be roughly 210 bhp and he got me another quote which come back at 525 fully comp

Car currently in for some work, sent an email to insurance company to inform them. Loved it when I got an email back saying its been sorted, no hassles and still got 20bhp to find lol :D

I'm coming a bit late to this, but have an interesting view on it; it's a longish story but bear with me....

I'm a retired guy aged 50, had my personal insurance with the same broker for 20+ years.

My wife, the gorgeous She Who Must Be Obeyed, is 44, been with the same broker as me for 20+ years.

No claims, accidents etc for either of us.

I took out trade insurance through my broker about 5 yrs ago, swmbo gave up her personal insurance and came on the trade.

Swmbo is self-employed! working for solicitors and insurance companies, but has just started a course at Derby Uni, and is doing volunteer work for CRUSE (bereavement councilling for kids, involving taking them out to the cinema etc in her car).

So... CRUSE need her to have her own insurance and for it to cover carrying aforementioned children.

This is for a 2004 BMW 320d mSport.

Ring our broker.

"£1500"

I fall over, then get very irate with them.

Swmbo goes on the Internet and finds quotes for £500-ish.

I speak to our broker who says they can provide a letter to prove her claim-Fred status, and lowers the quote to £700

Swmbo then decides to ring somewhere else.

Speaks with Milton at Chris KNOTT insurance

"£459 including legal cover, breakdown cover etc"

So, swmbo throws a curve ball at him :

Looking at a Fabia vRS, 40k from new, mods include Milltek exhaust, Eibach suspension, £500 stereo head unit, Jabbasport remap.

"£320 without the remap, remap adds £64" says Milton

I'm disgusted with our broker, I know the owner of the brokers personally, been friends for years, but he's just got fat and greedy, told him all of my insurance will be going elsewhere from now.

Moral?

Shop around.

And may I say, the attention to detail at Chris Knott was exceptional (no, I don't work for them, or have any affiliation with them, just recognise good service!); thank you Milton if you're reading this!

Every insurance has to be changed every year and it's not just car insurance, it's life and contents for the house, the utility accounts, everything! Yes, it's a hassle having to spend an hour on the phone to do each of them but hey, it's worth money!

Most of the crap you get with your insurances is useless because you can only claim once in each claim. For example, with my union i get legal protection so as soon as i got that (about 8 years ago) i cancelled the legal protection on every insurance i had when the renewal came about. That's worth a fiver on every insurance you pay! Same happened to free recovery and even mobile phone insurance, i get them as perks with my bank account (most people don't have a clue their bank accounts have perks) so i don't need it on my car insurance and definitely not on my phone bill.

All in all, living in a very dodgy estate, with a tpft policy (the car isn't exactly worth a lot of money) holding only the ability to drive other cars, bonus protection and the mandatory glass cover i only pay 290 quid a year. And that is very cheap my friends!
