SOLD! 1999/V Silverstone Blue BMW M5

Featured Replies

Didn't think I could ever sell this, but my midlife crisis craving must be satisfied. I bought the M5 in May 2010 from a guy in London who only owned it for 2 months, claiming he lost his parking space for it and needed to move it on. Yes, I thought that was a bit odd and suspicious, but as it has turned out, in three and a half years it has been one of the most reliable and certainly most smile inducing cars I've ever owned!

First registered on 11/10/1999 with 5 previous owners (I'm the 6th), the current mileage is a little under 72,500 miles, but hardly increasing. The car has the following notable options over the standard generous specification: double glazing and alcantara roof lining. Non-factory fitted extras are a Hayward & Scott stainless steel exhaust, facelift Xenon headlights and a detachable tow bar. Taxed until 28/02/2014 and MOT until 07/07/2014.

I've been updating a spreadsheet with costs and maintenance and have a folder full of receipts to show what work has been done. You can download it here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/785423/V335GGM/Maintenance.xls

You can also find the same information in my Pistonheads garage: http://www.pistonheads.com/members/showcar.asp?carId=124220

The bodywork is in a great condition, no dents, some fine scratches and a few stone chips. There is some rust bubbling underneath the black shadow trim around the windows, and some underneath the boot lid. I've had this section treated previously, but it seems to be more persistent than thought. There's a chip on the passenger side off the windscreen, which has been there since I bought it, but it does not affect vision or MOT.

Mechanically she wants for nothing, other than oil. Being a pre-facelift she doesn't benefit from the revised pistonrings of the facelifted M5, which is said to reduce oil usage significantly. That said, at less than £40 for 4L of Castrol adding half a litter every once in a while is no hardship. She will need new rear tyres soon (was advisory on last MOT), but because I use the car so little, I planned to make them last until it changes onto the winter tyres and then replace the rears and have the alloys refurbished ready for spring next year.

Inside it's all reasonably tidy, with only the drivers mat letting it down. Buy cheap, buy twice they say, and for these so-called ebay specials that certainly goes. The drivers door trim is damaged on the door shut where it caught the seatbelt when the door was closed. You can only see this when the door is open. All the trims have been wrapped with 3M Carbon Di-Noc, but are steel grey underneath. I'm told it can be removed, but I wouldn't want to try, besides, I like the 'sporty' carbon look. The 80's Nokia phone has been replaced by a much more useful armrest with cubby. The original is supplied and is very easy to restore if you like retro ;o) The handbrake handle is showing the years of usage, and although I have a very nice leather example spare, after I investigated what was involved in fitting it, I put it on a shelf again. The driver heated seat button does not work, the passenger side is fine. And finally, the radio occasionally cuts out and when you then switch to CD and back it works again. I think this is down to dry solder joints, and may still have a go at fixing this myself.

Now for the added bonus... I'm including a complete set of 17" winter tyres (Kumho I-Zen KW27) on freshly refurbished M5 replica alloys. Also included is a pair of 17" M5 replicas with (hardly) legal Dunlop tyres, which I bought from someone who was using them as drift tyres on his M5. I've always wanted to go to Santa Pod and try them out on a drift-what-ya-brung day, but it's never materialised. Finally, I am including a set of Thule roof bars with E39 feet on them. Makes travelling with a family of 4 abroad a lot more convenient!

I have many, many more (122! from today) pictures on my website: http://awooga.nl/gallery/cars/m5 and I've also uploaded a video to youtube where you can hear the Hayward & Scott exhaust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqV0cQIXnYw (and added bonus, the horn ;o))

My asking price is £8,000 which I think is a fair price considering the condition and the extras. Offers will always be considered, but not always accepted ;o)

Viewings can be arranged at all times, at my home in Northampton. Any inspection is welcome, but test drives will only be engaged in after the appropriate insurance documents have been shown and will only be for the prospective buyer (and not his mates). This car is my pride and joy and I will continue to treat it like that.

Absolutely beautiful car! Good luck with the sale!

Miss my M5 :-( GLWTS

Immense!

Lovely car. I see stuff like this and regret buying brand new. Could have had several cheaper and more interesting cars instead. GLWTS

One of the most comprehensive sale ads I've seen & best of luck selling such a nice example!

Being a big BMW fan my lad would love this but at 20 it's just a little above his means! ;)

My fav BMW, if I wasn't commuting I'd be tempted myself. Great advert, should be used as a template on how to list a car for sale.
