Heated seat retrofit

Featured Replies

As per title, has anyone done this?

Even though I LOVE the look of my factory leather, I'm not a fan of the lack of support with them. In fact I think they're useless when having a spirited drive - not to mention with the leather you slide about everywhere...   Plus in winter I'm a wimp and they're extremely bloody cold in the morning!!

Obviously my leather is not heated, so was looking at the Recaro's from the Golf. You can get them in heated variant from what I've seen. Would all that's required be a set of these, plus 2x original switches, plus the following loom....?

I'd get Seat Surgeons to retrim to match the rest of my factory leather, or just sell my whole set and get them to retrim the lot....

Really would like the extra support that the Recaro's give.

*Awaits the 'are you mad?!' comments...!!! (and DanHam to give him first refusal on my seats!!!)*  ;-)

You know the score Alex ;)

Standards in return? :P

Wouldn't be for a while obviously....  Just wouldn't mind knowing if this can be done ok? However, IF the time does come, then you will indeed have first refusal!!

They even have red piping lad! ;-)

Now now... First with the cash gets them

That's cool mate, couldn't help myself from commenting :P it's expected from me now!

Me and Kyle have had our fair few laughs over the very same topic! He's a lucky lad after practically committing day light robbery for those seats from the scrap yard!

Only joking Kyle ;)

I think Dan would literally be knocking on my door within 10 minutes of me putting them up with cash in hand ha ha!

I know the Fabia and Mk4 Golf have different seat base fittings, so that may be an issue, unless the rails will swap over.

The Fabia has 4 vertical screws holding the rails down, one in each corner if you like. And the Mk4 Golf has 2 horizontal mounted bolts in the middle at the front (may well be some at the back somewhere too).

That's not really an issue mate as PastyBoy has fitted Golf Recaros in his Fabia, all that's needed is a set of donor seats from a Fabia to swap them around :)

Yeah they've been retro-fitted before cheers DanSej :-)

I'm sure someone currently in this thread would more than happily donate a set of front seats ;-) !!

Hopefully someone will be along to confirm whether I can do this with said loom and Mk4 heated seats....  I really want a warm backside in winter  :giggle:

Don't put me off :P I hate being cold in the winter :(

I don't see why you couldn't mate, even so it wouldn't be difficult to modify the plugs etc to fit.

You're just trying to get me to do anything to get some now ha ha!!   :bandit:

In all seriousness I think it's definitely do-able. It's just finding some proper Recaro's that are heated. What's the difference between the actual Recaro's and the other GTi seats do you know?

Haha I'm not mate ;) one of the lads I work with has a golf with the red recaro seats and I was eyeing them up today, he said I can have a look around them tomorrow and see if they are comfortable and see how his armrest is fitted etc :)

Got a leather armrest to fit tomorrow evening :)

My missus saw you twice today. She said your car looks weird at the front, I had to explain to her that your currently spraying loads of parts :P

I had a lift into town from a mate with a GT TDi, and the seats were soooo much comfier than mine. Plus they proper hug you, unlike mine that feel like they were designed for an 'extra wide' person!! Just so **** for driving spiritedly. I would never want to even contemplate a track day with them fitted to be honest.

I need an armrest! Going to get Ant to retro-fit cruise for me as soon as wages from my new job settle down, as I do more dual-carriageway work now.

Ha ha that's funny! You'd think she'd know after seeing yours so much!! I popped out for 10 minutes at dinner, so was probably then. The car is literally beyond filthy at the moment please tell her, as I don't see the point in getting it looking mint when the grille, both fog light inserts, and both mirror covers are missing!

I think the seats suit me pretty well, I suppose I'm pretty well built though. I used to have Sparco sports recliners in a previous car and they were amazing! I took them out for standards and the first corner I came to I thought I was going to fall out haha!

I've explained to her so she fully understands now! Have you seen the Chavvy 206 covered in stickers in the college? That is her car, she doesn't half love those stickers!

Iv got a pair of fabia front seats i can donate to a good cause.. they were my heated elegance seats but iv ripped the heated elements out for my alfa seats.. the frames are still good tho ;)..

They have been in my shed for a while but im having a clear out so ill be scrapping them if nobody wants them..

I'm in the process of this very same retrofit. All be it in my mk1 octy VRS. The original VRS seats offered very little lateral support. So an eBay purchase secured some mint mk4 golf recaros. They are so supportive and comfortable. However they are cloth and don't match the rear bench. So I've been talking to trim star in Colchester Essex that will trim front and rear seats and door cards in Nappa leather and also retrofit heating elements to the front recaros. Looking like November before it's done will post findings and pics when completed.

Matt thanks very much for the offer mate, but it'll be a while before I get round to doing this I imagine. Other things further up on 'the list' for now ha ha!

group1rs that's awesome cheers! When you say retrofit heating elements, I presume you just mean to buy some heating elements new? If so which ones? & I presume they'll work with the different temperature settings that the Skoda switches offer? i.e. not just on/off. I assume it's just the voltage difference that dictates heat...

Can anyone remember where the old thread with the Recaro conversion to Fabia base seats went?!

I think I paid top money for those seats Dan! In fact I think I got ripped off if truth be told

After speaking to Trim Star their retro fit is using their own three stage switch with their own elements. So off low medium and high. But they are happy to fit OEM stuff as they are trimming the seats. So I've purchased OEM skoda switch for the dash and a kufatec loom still need to get part numbers for the VW recaro elements then good to go.

I emailed Trim Star earlier this evening to see what they can do price wise for me for re-trimming the front 2 Recaro seats so they look just like the ones I have now, but with OE heating elements put in too. Will see what they come back with....

Hi there,

I was just wondering if heated seats could be retrofitted to a Fabia vrs mk2 by the dealer and how much would it cost?
