poor radio reception

I'm also having issues with radio reception.

I tried to get to the hidden menu on the Stream head unit we have, but there isn't a menu button.

Any ideas?

I know on some Stream units its bottom right, but the button layout on ours seems different.

I thought MODE might be an alternative, as it accesses menu type features, but holding it does not work.

I'd be interested to hear how your reception is after replacing the antenna as I have the same poor reception on my 06 Stream.

Same here, mine is dodgy as it flags up a fault on VCDS after a scan, I'm ordering one today ready for some banging Xmas tunes, tra la la la la......

Another thing to try is turning the heated rear window on.

If this makes it alot worse (ie pretty much constant white noise) it's the supressors in the rear screen that have gone. I had a poor reception issue like this a few weeks ago.

funny as my radio reception, not all places, got alot worse after tinting windows.

hello folks, the radio reception in my Octavia is pretty poor, keeps coming and going, sometimes clear sometimes not so clear. I've checked connections behind the radio and seems fine, checked the ariel and it seems to be secure...any ideas?

How easy would it be to fit one of those shark fin type ariels?

I have the same sort of problem very noisy reception, but when I stop the car & turn the engine off after about 10 seconds all the hissing stops & its nice & clear. not sure where to look next, any ideas. cheers

Once the roof aerial is removed  - see previous posts on this subject -open it up via two screws at base - need to peel back rubber  - what will become obvious is that there is a contact tab of metal which, when the unit is closed up and screwed tight , makes contact with aerial base - this is the problem!  The contact tab and the base of the aerial needs to be cleaned and contact cleaner and possibli silicone grease applied. When closing up assy. make sure contact is adjusted to make contact with base of aerial. Re-mount aerial , using silcone grease and some contact cleaner on inside of nut and washer - this needs to be earthed. Check for "ant on" status on radio by pushing menue button for at least 10 sec. Job done. This fixed my poor reception.

This is a very interesting subject, I may have to have a peek at mine too, as sometimes the radio struggles to pick up our local radio station!! This could well be the problem.

It's a bit fiddly to fit.......no special skills required, you just have to unscrew and screw the nut on the base of the aerial by feel alone. Took me a few goes to get the nut back on the new aerial.

To get access you remove the plastic trim panel at the top of the boot aperture, and stick your hand up above the roof lining and feel for the aerial base and nut....on the estate anyway, I imagine the hatch is similar.......IIRC it's a 22mm nut. The plug is mounted near where the roof lining ends, so is easy to disconnect/connect.

It's certainly a job worth doing yourself to save labour charges at a garage.

No problem.

Forgot to mention, but on my stream head unit you can confirm if the aerial amplifier is the problem by holding the Menu button for 10 seconds......you then get access to a hidden menu. One of the items in this menu is 'ANT' if it is says 'OFF' then the amp has failed....if it is 'ON' then it is ok.

Thanks booke23, having read this, purchased a new aerial and this week replaced the aerial on my '07 Octavia Scout and now the radio works all the way up the M4 again! As booke23 says, it's a bit fiddly but easy enough. You need someone to hold the new aerial in place whilst you do up the screw from the inside.

Glad it's cured your poor reception!
