Mobile phone mount/holder

Featured Replies

Has anyone got any suggestions on the best way to mount my smartphone to the dash? I use it quite often for sat nav so it needs to be easily visible.

Thanks.

  • From experience these weighted solutions are rubbish. In the event of an impact or sudden jolt (potholes for example) you have the base and a 130g+ piece of tech flying around the cabin. No thanks

  • A bean bag for £19 - and you think Brodit is overpriced  Okay, save a quid - get it from Amazon.

  • Brodit might be expensive compared to a bean bag but you get what you pay for, I paid for a quality phone holder and that's what I got!

Brodit. I've bought one but haven't fitted it yet

+1 for brodit. Had one for my x-type and ordering now mount for the vRS.

Yes, either Dashmount or Brodit brackets.

one small clip on the air vent, one small  magnet on the back of the phone, ridiculously easy to use - I've used one on my Iphone for nearly 12 months now

Brodit for me too - this is the one:

Brodit, overpriced rubbish.

The best method is use a bean bag mount as you would for a portable sat nav (http://www.navmat.co.uk) or an Arkon Mount and if you attach one of those bad boys you won't get it off quickly, even if you have a suction cup one (http://www.buybits.com/Catalogue.aspx?cid=1755)

I've got one and it's brilliant. However I usually store the phone in the centre armrest so it's out of the way.

I got mine from there when there was a special deal on anyway the navmat's are very good for those of us who haven't spent £1350 on a built in sat nav, as you can use it for both phone or portable sat nav dual purpose you know.  :p

Is there not a phone holder in the simple clever pack? Sits in where cup holder goes

I've got a Brodit set up, but using the angle mount from the Superb II so no trailing wires across the head unit to the vent mount, I'll post a pic tomorrow.

This is my set-up for my tomtom satnav, got it from Halfords but i'm sure you can get it cheaper online

Got my Brodit Proclip for £18 including postage so I don't think it is overpriced. Have had many different types of mounts for my last 5 cars, Brodit is by far the best in terms of quality, positioning, fit and sturdiness. I don't understand what's rubbish about it. Have you actually used one?

Just some supplementary info. I bought a USB lead and ran it down the A pillar behind the rubber seal and plastic sill trim, then under the front seat rails and up to the 12V cig lighter by the handbrake using a USB charger. Was going to run it to the 12V in the boot, but the 5m USB wasn't long enough.  Anyway, front is in some way better because you can cut the power easily if you want to stop the phone from over charging. Did consider using the USB socket above the sliding lid, but it lead would get in the way of the lid. So have decided to leave that socket free for my daughter when she uses her phone or play her songs through it.

Brodit is crap quality, I know I managed to break it with arrogant ease in the past and when I replaced the part & then removed it, it left a dent where it had been. Crap with a capital C.

And when you consider the price of the part is actually not much more than 50-60p each and then you see the mark up on it.... Well!  :bandit:

Not in my experience, had my angle mount for over 4 years and swapped it over from Superb to Octy no probs, even though the angle mount is not supposed to fit the Octy, it works well. The new phone mount for Nokia Lumia also seems very sturdy so you must have a bumbling ham-fisted tendency to have managed to break one. Quality with a capital Q.

Hi

I used to have mine mounted in a similar position, it always caught the passengers knees. Have you found that?

ss

Used to get this occasionally in the Superb with larger passengers, but not had any trouble with the Octy. I think the console is narrower and its ended up a little higher so probably further away from trouble. The main benefit of this position is the charging sockets are closer. I also managed to get a curly wire USB charging lead which is very neat.

One thing I did like having the phone down there was that it was not blocking the front vision in anyway.

That looks really good. Is there not an airbag on the a pillar?
