No. Definately not. Had to do a double take on the first of several that i saw, after Ree Jnr pointed one out to me, wondering why there was no back wiper.

It was only when I walked around it and saw the Octavia badge that I realised I wasn't imagining it at all!

Mk2's they were, probably about 7 yeats old I'd say, in the common and usual condition that most cars out there.

Clearly not as fussy as us anal Brits!!

Only saw  three or four, and in fairness, they don't look massively different to our hatchbacks. Don't think I'd have noticed at all unless 'ole eagle eyes' hadn't pointed them out to me.

Only saw 2 Fabia's and a few Superbs btw.

Hired a 1 year old Micra, slightly off topic.

What a load of crap! (imo)

They didn't do Octavia II saloons... anywhere.

Unless I'm wrong?

Well obviously I couldn't open the boot on any of them to be absolutely 100% sure, but the tailgate/boor lid was different to UK spec.

This is a mystery, and you've actually got me doubting myself now.

Only early days on this thread, but I was fully expecting a barrage of "oh, didn't you know" replies already.

If you look at an Octavia II without the boot spoiler, it does at a glance sometimes look like a saloon. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen or heard of an Octavia II saloon produced for any market be it China, Russia, Indonesia or Europe. I would like to know for sure though.

Deffo never ever been an Octavia Saloon of any kind. There were MK1 Octavias without rear wipers fitted.......

Defo Mk2's, and defo no rear wipers.

P'raps I'm wrong then.

Could have sworn the tailgate/boot lid looked different though.

P'raps I need to go back and have a third look!!

We need a Greek member in here to clarify this .

@ Mr Ree, I am not getting something. You wrote that you came back from Kos, so I suppose you mean Kos island in Greece. If so then no there are no Octavia Saloon here in Greece, but the same hatches like those you drive in UK. It's just a weird spec without the rear wiper (boot lid's one). I think they import them this way in order to cut expenses and this is the most ridiculus explanation someone could give, but that's the truth. If you want rear wiper then you have to add it as an extra and this happens since I bought my first Octavia MK1 in 2002. Of course police cars and other state cars are all equipped with that rear wiper.

---EDIT---

Apparently there wasn't your other post asking a Greek member to clarify that to you, by the time I wrote the answer.

I've already done this...

I know nothing about them other than the various Octavia Saloons on Google Images.

You need to search for Sedan

Behold, the mythical Octy saloon :)

Not too sure about Octavia saloons, but in India the Mk 2 Octavia was sold as a "Laura".

I've been searching for pix & it was definately  a hatch-back, but the rear wash-wipe doesn't appear to be fitted in any photo I can find.

Maybe that's what you have seen in KOS, a normal Octavia minus the wash-wipe?

There may be a precedent here, the current Rapid gets a wash-wipe in the UK but not in all markets.

DC

I stand corrected.

Not like you to be wrong about a Skoda, mate. You losing your touch :giggle:

I know. I am disappointed in myself. I think I need to go on a study trip to China!

Oh I'm totally confused now.

So, a saloon/sedan was/is available but seemingly not in Greece/Kos Island, and one  seen on Nisyros Island too btw.?

My head's starting to hurt.

Off topic,

but maybe have a look at the vid of the Taxi being repaired, as in the complete side being replaced.

  • Author

Completely lost me on that one, ^^^ sorry.

Think I'm going senile.

Surely that's a write off if ever there was one?

No. Still lost.

Please explain what is probably 'the obvious'.

Watched the clip several times now too.

I'm not sure if it is what sk4gw meant but I watched the video of the Octavia taxi driving along with a sign on the roof and then clicked on one of the recommended videos which showed an Octavia taxi being repaired. Here is the video I watched which is the one I think he was talking about;
