Operating temperature of 1.9 SDi

Featured Replies

Evening chaps,

Can someone please tell me what the operating temperature should be of a 2001 1.9 SDI Skoda Octavia when fully warmed up?

Having been monitoring the temperature using measuring blocks of VCDS, I never seem to be getting above 74C, despite a long journey (around an hour).

I have replaced the coolant temp sensor, which is now fully working and no more fault codes.  The temp guage sits either just under the middle mark or just under.

To my understanding, this is a thermostat issue being in the "always open" phase, would I be right in thinking this?

Thanks a lot.

Yep stuck open stat.

Just replaced the thermostat and been monitoring temperature again, seems to now sit around the 92C mark, with plus and minus about 2 degrees.

Can someone please confirm the ideal operating temp of this engine please? I'm a little concerned this may be too high.

Thanks a lot.

Sounds normal to me.

On my gauge it reads just over 90c, but on VCDS it reads 88c which is bang on.

Thanks a lot Paul, appreciate it.

When im sat on the motorway a tad about 80 and it sits at 90 degrees, slow around town drops to 70 degrees is this the stat too?

As a general rule the gauge on the dash should hit 90 and stay there all day long.  If it moves about then either the stat is stuck or the water pump is failing.

The gauge is designed so that is displays 90 even if the temp a few degrees eitherway (to prevent loads of "panic" calls to the garage about varying temps).

Also remember that the CTS has 2 feeds - one for the ECU and one for the dash gauge.  it is non un-common for just one of these feeds to fail....
