Does the video cut off when you drive off? And what is the picture quality actually like as the Bolero screen isn't that great?

I've not tried to drive with it on yet, will give it a test in the morning. As for the picture its surprisingly good considering the screen isn't that amazing.

Just tried this this morning and as expected as soon as the car starts to move the picture is switched off although the movie continues just with sound only....

Now this is a strange one!

 

I had read, prior to picking up the car last Fri that the blue cable would not display the artwork but was unaware of the choice when I specced the Mitsumi option. Therefore I was disappointed when I saw that I had a blue cable delivered with the car however I was then surprised to see that I could get the artwork up! But strangely, not on all albums/songs :think: . 

 

Maybe it is an 'embed' issue after all?! I'll pursue it a bit and try embedding to see if it solves the problem. Don't really want video so if can avoid buying a red cable then happy days!!

That is weird. All I know is with the blue cable I got no album art on my 5th gen iPod or 3rd gen iPod touch. Now with the red cable my 5th gen doesn't work at all but my iPod touch I get all album art whether it's embedded in each track or once for the album.......

Really is strange!

 

I'm at work at the mo' but when I get home later I'll do a bit of experimenting! I tried both my 4S and an old 80GB iPod classic that I lent my parents and with both I got mixed results. Some displayed the artwork whereas other more recent stuff didn't. I'm going to try an SD card as well jut for the fun of it and either way I'll keep you posted as it may be of benefit to others.

Ok, I managed to figure out how to embed artwork in iTunes and loaded up one album that showed artwork in my library but didn't in the car and another album that also failed the mitsumi test but this one I embedded. Result, the embedded one worked perfectly and displayed the artwork as opposed to the first which still did not show any.

 

Hope that makes sense! Been a long day but in summary, the blue collared Mitsumi cable will show artwork as long as it's embedded on the album/song!

 

That was the good news. The SD card test failed and couldn't read anything! Oh well, gonna have a lie down as all this has done my head in

Well after the results I got and what the mk7 Golf guys got I think the red cable is the only way to go to get all album art without having to faff about with it being embeded or not. With the red cable it just works. Seeing as the car doesn't come with the cable anyway its just a case of buying the red one instead of the blue one.

Yes it is a bit of a faff and for anyone interested who maybe waiting for their car then I would suggest contacting their dealer for clarification as it wasn't explained fully to me. Given the choice I would've gone for a red cable in the first place but there is a workaround for people that do get the blue cable with their car and want the artwork displayed.

The thing is the cable isn't standard with the car, it's an accessory so you shouldn't actually get one with it..... Even with the Mitsumi option.

At the end that plugs into the media-in socket there's a red or blue band around the cable as it goes into the plug.

Ooohhhh. Hmmmm mine is blue. But it was free. Do I take it back and say I need the red banded one? Would be nice to see the album art etc without messing about with other stuff! Hmmm what do you reckon?

I'm sure they'd change it for you if they're good dealers. You get the ability to play video with the red cable which you can't with the blue but if you want hassle free artwork shown on your screen then go for the red cable.

It seems dealers are not being very clear when customers are ordering Mitsumi for Apple connections.

Forgot to add, are there different part numbers for these red / blue cables? The original cable that was put in the car for me had been pinched by someone at the dealership so I wonder if my original one was a red one and whoever pinched it knew that!

Probably a better bet as mine is the VW one but no doubt the same cable.
