Many thanks

Do you have a tow-bar? If so there are plenty of good 2 bike carriers around (and a fair few 3 / 4 bike carriers) as you go up the price range they get easier to attach and to secure the bikes to, but it does depend on your budget. I wouldn't fancy a roof mounted one on a yeti and I've never had a strap to the back of a car one thats been any good.

no tow bar, perhaps I could get one of these too

Yetski,

A tow-bar mounted carrier is definitely the best option but not a cheap one.

Ability to carry 4 bikes on the back was high up on my tick list when I chose the Yeti. As it was so high up on my list, I went for factory fit and have been very happy with the Westphalia detachable. If you're only using the tow-bar for bikes go for a detachable.

If you're looking for a two bar carrier, one with child seat, start looking at a 3 bike mount you'll need it soon enough. The right one depends on how often you use it (the cheaper ones are more fiddly) how theft proof you want the carrier and mounted bikes to be and if you want to be able to open the boot with bikes mounted (more expensive ones can do this) but I just use the foldable seats to access the boot when the bikes are mounted.

Having said this everywhere we've taken the bikes this year, Carsington, High Peak Trail, Monsal Trail, all have reasonably priced daily hire bikes. I think its going to take 4 years before having a carrier is cheaper than hiring.

Cheers mate

If money is no object (in the region of £450) the Thule Easyfold 932 is excellent, clever design, takes two bikes and mounts on a tow bar. It also folds (hence the name) so reduces storage space and has full integrated lighting.

I'm very pleased with mine.
