Arm Rest revellation

Featured Replies

Be careful, when I raised this topic about a year ago it started a war of words about when you should turn your lights on. :wall:

Fred

There should be a thread for the most obscure functions which no ordinary non-techies, like me, would normally discover. Don't mention the user's guide. It's incomprehensible to most normal people, again like me!

Hear ! Hear! - being a technical illiterate I would heartily welcome such a thread.

Finally today, I removed the central arm rest. Simple when you know how, but a lot of fiddling to get there.

The pivot for the arm rest is a big rivet each side clenched in place. I had to drill out the turned over metal and it all came apart with no drama.

I intend to replace it when the car goes in 2021 by drilling and tapping the rivet and inserting a countersunk screw.

It's so much better, for me, having uncluttered access to the handbrake - I'm also using the resultant platform to mount my two MSA rally radios conveniently between the seats :whew:

Blimey Graham, out in the rain just for you :hi:

First, the rivet removal:

The two bits of velcro straps go into where the hinges were, then hold the radio pack in place. I've not yet finished the material covered plywood "shelf" for the radios to sit on properly, but you get the picture :giggle:

Then a couple of my extra mud flaps - £15.00 from Peter Lloyd of Bridgend using the OEM fixings and a plastic scrivit:

Cheers Jerry.

My Tait is fitted to a piece of wood that neatly fits onto the same gap, but on top of the cushion.

I must have a trip to Peter Lloyds!!

Got two radios, one on MSA1, and the other on PBR "open red" channel. Both radios are equally programmed.

I've got a handheld so a runner can go off and talk to me on red, whilst I'm still listening on the MSA freq.
