Returning to vRS ... colours ? DSG ? TSi/TDi ?

The steering wheel is definitely the right place for the paddles.  Change gear mid-corner!  That's poor advanced planning.

Well said. I always plan my position for entry & exit for best entry and exit speeds, provided I know the road.

Your only choices are whether it's petrol and yellow. Sounds like the answer to both is yes to me.

That could make it very difficult changing gear mid-corner.

Please explain....

If the paddles are on the wheel, then it's not easy to shift up or down when the wheel is off-centre, if they are an fixed position on the steering column then your fingers know where to find them.

As for not shifting in a corner, & planning all your gear changing in advance, yeah that'd be nice but it's not  always possible, especially in a long bend or a reverse curve.

Even more difficult when driving in strange territory, & needing a quick up or down shift to make good progress on unknown roads.

Interesting comments from the manual brigade re. not knowing how to use a clutch or needing to find a use for the left leg.

I learn't to use a clutch in 1965 & 'cos I still keep a manual car in our little fleet.

I can still remember the skills acquired so long ago, on little motorcycles & three wheel cars, (low torque 2-strokes, with all their mediocre power far too far the RPM range), so driving a car for the 1st time ('63 Viva) was quite easy. (Light & progressive clutch & gear box, but too many wheels at the back...)

Even more fun was trying to drive a car with just the left foot, an auto escort, with a 2nd gas pedal mounted to the left of the brake & also various cars with  hand control adaptations .

To get back on track, if one can afford the extra cost of the DSG, + the minimal increase in running costs, we both feel that the driving experience is better.

I've been driving my manual for the last few days but I'm looking to going home in one of the Skodas tonight. It will be quicker, more relaxed & more fun. Why 'cos they will both waft along in the the traffic very quietly, but if there is a need to scoot, then just a simple twitch of the right foot will suffice.

Driving a nice high-winding V6 has been fun, but there is a higher work-load in traffic & on twiddly roads. As for motorway cruising, either option is fine, but in today's driving environment  a good auto beats a good manual most of the time.

Theoretically, when driving "enthusiastically" you shouldn't take your hands off the wheel at all. Especially with a shorter rack like the O3 VRS has. And at this point it is actually better to have the paddles on the steering wheel, not the steering column.

Dropped by a Skoda dealer on Saturday - with aim of showing the wife & kids the new vRS and interior ; the nice chap there said "here's the key, take it out" (and I had choice of both TSI and TDI - both race-blue DSG estates); so of course I took the petrol DSG down the road and I was very, very impressed ... so, Yellow TSI Hatch has been decided upon and likely a DSG box now !

Good lad! Yellow was my first choice, but the wife wanted green. I think yellow hatch with black pack and anthracite wheels would look the best out of all the colour combos

I like the green, as do the kids; but green is unlucky acc. to the wife so no luck in getting a green one !

Any thoughts on Corrida Red with a black pack & privacy glass on a vRS Combi?

It looks nice but sometimes I think less is more and that with some colours you need to have a little chrome to break it all up as it can be a bit too much/overpowering.

Collecting my Black Magic vRS Combi today with silver accents for exactly that reason. Pics to follow. ;)

I agree on the silver bits but bright chrome just looks naff.  There are better alternatives for silver accents.

With the bright sunshine on it and it being immaculately clean, that looks stunning!

That does look sooo tempting!

Thanks for the px, DC

The red with blackpack and sunroof i exactly what i ordered. No regrets after seeing these pics!

Decisions decisions.......deffo going for a petrol hatch.....with black pack and sunset glass, but I'm torn between RB, RG and CR in colours! I've always had white, silver or black cars and now it's time to change. Currently in a silver vRS mkII. Will RB be too common on the roads?

I think it looks superb! I'd have it in a hatch though but with that colour scheme, its a pretty good call.

That one looks a lot lower than stock...

That's because he's in the middle of the corner and probably pushing it really hard (look at the tire wall). So the suspension has reached its travel limit.

Red estate with black pack with the sunroof looks properly awesome!
