Hey man, thanks haha :)

You're right about the parts being replaced, had to do a lot of man maths to justify some of the stuff though haha. Yeah I took some pics i'll post them up now.

The clamps

Due to the sizes you have to ratchet strap the bar a bit to get it to fit in the rear beam. I have no idea how to use a ratchet strap haha

Unfortunately the bolts supplied with the clamps weren't long enough for my rear beam so I had to get some new ones for 80p haha

First impressions are, it feels incredible. So much more planted and the car goes where I want it now. Experienced my first bit of controlled lift off oversteer today too which was fun haha. Barely any body roll and no more understeer. Would 100% recommend this.

I also fitted some meyles HD drop links for the front arbs as mine looked a little past their best, and when removing them this confirmed that, the balls just moved so freely in their sockets with no resistance what so ever. Yet to go for a drive though.

These are them!

I discovered some delicious CV boot grease that's new, looks like it's split the boot when i've been testing out the RARB :( haha

And new ones all on. Took about 30 mins all in all!

Looking good Dan, really happy you rate the improvement on the H&R RARB, we shall add you to the list of converts :)

Is this the best pound for pound handling upgrade going on a small VAG hatch?

Definitely feels like it so far although I haven't had much chance to try it out as my front abs sensor wanted to die and is giving me endless amount of problems!

On another note i've got the dashcam installed and took it off to retrieve some footage from today to show the Gtechniq rain repellent doing its thing. Absolutely love this stuff and no need for wipers. There are two clips in the vid, just 10 seconds apart for some really strange reason.

Anyone know how to embed?!

You need to. type ... insert youtube link here

And then end with

I've got some Hellshine Ghostrider from Autobrite I'm waiting to try, hoping for big results against rain too.

OOOh thank you - worked wonders!

Thanks for the update on the RARB Dan, i can't wait for mine to arrive.

I've got a right niggle with the handling of my Monte Estate & this RARB could well be the medicine it needs.

But i wouldnt particularly say that it is Understeer per say, just a bit pogo stickish compared to my old fabia.

Anyway what im saying is that i've been paying particular attention to how my car handles & there's a nice hairpin bend that

i drive every day that will be a guage & ill be sure to update on Briskoda if it makes a difference.

Oh & well done figuring out the ratchet strap, they are the work of the devil :)

Nice build thread mate!

Have you got a linky to the SMF/Clutch kit you got for £260??

Still feels awesome!

When you getting this mapped matey?

When you getting this mapped matey?

Cheers

It's already in the process of being mapped dude! Just finalising it now, had a bit of a nightmare because the turbo wasn't set up for my car at all.

First of all the stop screw wasn't set up and it wasn't letting a full movement of travel with regards to the actuator. So I had to get under the car and adjust that which was fairly easy. Had to keep checking with VCDS if i'd turned it enough times by doing the VNT test to see the full levels of movement.

After that the duty cycle was showing only 60% ish when at 4000rpm when really it needed to be around 75-80%, so to change that the actuator rod had to be lengthened (or shortened I can't remember haha), but basically this was the annoying part as it's so tight to get your hands in. Had to make a small spanner to crack the nut off on the VNT mech and adjust the knurled part by hand. Had to do this a few times, then go for a run and test it, then do it again. Had to do it over 4 times haha then it was right.

Then after all this my bearing decided to slide out which halted the process of everything, it was giving me an ABS error and abs was kicking in even when driving which was annoying. The gap from the ABS sensor to the pick up ring was around 3-4mm when really it should have been around 0.3mm.

Stripped it all down and pushed the bearing in properly and clipped in (not sure if the garage clipped it in last time :S ) yet the car still drove awfully!!!

Looked under the car and the wishbone ball joint nut was completely loose, literally about to fall off :( Not ideal at all. So i've tightened it up, threadlocked it etc and all seems well (ish)

The car still drives like crap in terms of handling :( Really crashy and just feels all over the place, it doesn't understeer anymore but I just don't feel confident in driving it fast as it's right unpredictable!

It feels fast now though, fabokas got my latest logs and i think is about to tweak the fuelling,

Having all this along side a 30 page report that's worth 50% of the module at uni, job interviews and seeing the gf in newcastle was a bit of a handful to say the least!!

Impressive build thread, and very entertaining and resourceful.

Rip it out, and build your own silicone pipework.

I'm afraid that's because its an Ibiza. My Cordoba used to make me wince the way it crashed on even minor bumps, like something was going to break, and thats on nice bouncy 60 profile tyres. In comparison I'd say the GFs little Yaris felt much more solid over the bumps. My brothers X plate Focus and my Celica are worlds apart from the Cordoba in terms of road noise, suspension feel/noise and handle better!

I don't know what they do to them, because apparently even if you get the Fabia suspension and put it on an Ibiza, it will crash and bang more than a Fabia.

I always wondered what a set of AP coilovers and many many braces would do for it... could never bring my self to spend a load on it as I think the answer may well have been 'not all that much tbh'.

Talking of yari (plural haha) I was in the back of my sister's Yaris today. I know exactly what you mean about it taking the bumps well!! The car felt a bit mental on the motorway though, just not as planted at the beefa! Made me happy to own my car I guess, especially as I do a lot of mileage. Would never be able to hack it in a Yaris.

I had a Focus before this and it handled a million times better. The way I can describe this car is, it feels like it always needs to be monitored like it's constantly wanting to go one way. Such as going over a bumpy road, if you hit a tiny dint it will pull the car towards that direction.

It's like a mega high maintenance girlfriend, just not so easy going haha

I'm in that situation now, whether to improve the handling as much as I can or cut my losses and actually get a decent handling car!

So SO tempted to get a Clio 182. I'd love to run two cars.

Yeah the Yaris is bloody terrifying on the motorway. I drove it over the tops to Manchester in the wind, I didn't want to go above 65. But its a 1L with little 155 width wheels... so its not supposed to be a motorway machine. Had to laugh on the way back as the Celica had a wobble so I kept it bellow 80... she overtook me with the biggest grin on her face as she peeped over the steering wheel.

I drove around in a CMAX on holiday and came back to the Cordoba, and on smooth roads it actually feels quite good. There's a weight to everything compared to the CMAX, but over the bumps it just fidgets and fusses (not to mention the bangs/noises). It was never going to be fantastic in the corners with that TDi lump in the front. Gear change always felt good in mine, no matter how quick I up shifted it didn't complain (except 1st to 2nd when cold and low revs, for some reason it didn't like that).

IMHO while you're doing the miles keep it. My Cordy was faultless over my 26k miles starting at 6years old, needed a few bits of maintenance but never failed to get me where I needed to go. I've now handed it to my brother who put 9k on his X plate Focus in 6months between Gloucester and Manchester, so has more need of a TDI than me. It would be a shame to let it go after the work you've put in, and you will never get the cash back now its spent...

My choice, after I'd decided I didn't want to spend more than 3-4k was between a R53 Cooper S and a Celica... Celica won this time as in 2-3 years time when I come to replace it, there won't be any newer ones about... but I can always get a <10 year old Cooper S later... or something else :P

Sounds exactly like mine then haha! I can't come to sell it now though, especially with how much money i've put into it.

Just got this through the post oops! I left my mapping cable on display when I went to my gf's apparently.

So after realising I had a boost leak as above I set on to create some kind of silicone tubing method to connect to the EGR delete.

This is the 90° tubing!

And the original boost pipe that uses VAG connectors that leak like mad. So I decided to see if I could use the little bead around the boost pipe to hold the silicone pipe on but would require me to chop it down a bit.

Which eventually left me with this!

I tidied it up with a file after those pics. Then it's going on like this.

I could do with chopping the silicone down a bit more but it's okay for now, wanted to play it safe!

So did it fix the leak!? Haha

I think it has man, need to get the tester on it!

Awesome build thread Dan, how's the 1749vc turbo going? Are you doing the mapping yourself or getting someone to send you a map to upload?

Had it on the dyno yet?

Cheers,

Hey buddy, thanks for the compliment :)

It seems to be going really well atm, although still in the midst of getting it mapped. Been really busy and had a few problems above so haven't got it fully done yet but when it has been pulling it's been pulling awesomely. Really impressed with it .

I'm faboking it, (A memeber on here called Faboka) who sends you the new map after you have done some logs for him etc.

We've exchanged over 100 messages about it so far!! Honestly can't rate him highly enough. Excellent communication throughout and always looking out for you :)

Will get it dynod when it's all done and uni assignments have died down a bit. Just so stressed lately haha.

This happened today though :( Not idealllll and a new windscreen needed!

Not so good about the windscreen! How much does faboka charge for maps like this? My setup is similar to yours but mine being the pd150, waiting for xmans 1749vc turbo to arrive and then have got an s3 intercooler (replacing leaky oem intercooler) to fit and mapping.

Only thing I'm concerned about is getting the actuator length right, I see you mentioned it took a few goes above, did you lengthen it or shorten it?

What's the spool like on the new turbo and are you still getting good mpg?

Cheers,

S10EAT
