Leaves are falling - Winter tyre time ?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

New here so bear with me or point me where I need to go please.

Picked up my 2013 L&K 170 DSG estate last month and have to say (my first Skoda) I am well impressed !!

In fact I have never considered the winter tyre option before but feel it would be a shame to reshape the body work due to a bit of the slippery white stuff.

So I have been looking around and I see that my 18" Sirius alloys limit the amount of tyres open to me, I have therefore decided that I need a 16" wheel that I can put Conti 850 winter tyres on.

The idea of steel and trims does not work for me so I have found these http://www.lkperformance.co.uk/wheels/wsp-italy/886-dresden-silver?vehicle=1212&front-rear=16x7.0 which look pretty similar to Sirius I have now but are 16".

My other option was to go for another 16" wheel that is similar to the Skoda Spectrum wheel and found these http://www.mrwinterwheels.co.uk/16-skoda-superb-alloy-winter-wheels-tyres.html .

My big query is the offset, I cant seem to find what the offset is for the Skoda Sirius wheel. The LK Performance wheel show an offset of ET42, mr winter tyres show and offset of ET50.

Will they both work - I dont know what the ET range for my car is.

What do you think  ?

Thanks

I think that all of the Superb 18" alloys are et45, you can check on wheel to be sure.

Both rims you've linked to a smaller width, one 6" and one 6.5", so even though the offset is et50 on one it will still be ok as rim is narrower. The 6" rim will have more room than before.

Also check size of tyre. You'll want as close as possible existing rolling radius to keep speedo ok and also to prevent rubbing on full lock.

Thanks

Thanks Steve, I'll pull a wheel off and check markings just to make sure.

Done exactly as you are thinking about 16" and conti on 2.0 combi DSG. Bought wheels from dealer, the tyres direct from Continental and fitting and balance was £10 each from MyTyres. Upsides...smoother ride, downside, slightly noisier at speed. Had a long drivre last weekend on outside lane of M3 motorway though some deepwater at speed which previously would have set the anti-skid off..nothing so my presumption is that these displace water better. Currently in France/Germany, so no real experience of the cold, but it's coming! Heartily recommend.

The correct 16" wheel for the superb is a 7J 16 with an offset of 45 and 5x112.00.
