New to skoda - very hard to find right place to buy

Featured Replies

So we are considering citigo elegance 75ps ASG 5door as our second family car. The 0% has an attraction but it would seem the dealers (Norwich & Ipswich) are neither that bothered to sell a vehicle with a discount .

Although we understand there is 12-14 week waiting list, which is not world ending, I was amazed how arrogant the skoda dealers could be.

The specification we are considering is

Style pack 2

Convince pack

Entertainment pack

Sunset glass

Is there anything else worth considering? As a must have option

What's the situation on radio choice? Is DAB possible

Any feedback on ASG gearbox?

With regards to ASG when I was looking my dealer actually told me not to even consider the ASG, I got the feeling even the dealer weren't impressed with it :-(

We have to go for the ASG as my wife only drives auto and it will spend most of its time in urban use.

I did use the search box but limiting informing relation to buying. Other than one user confirming how poor east Anglian skoda dealers are.

Advice welcome

How about getting her some lessons in a manual :D

Only kidding fella :D

I'd say be prepared to travel to get the best deal. I travelled a couple of hundred miles and I'm sure there's a few people on here who have also travelled to get cars.

I'm happy to travel if people are happy to indicate best type of discount achievable

I've said in other threads there should be at least £375 discount but if you look / try hard you can get upto 750ish.

Don't order ASG unless you have tried it first. So many people have been unhappy after the long wait to get the car.

Welcome to the forum.

I often find it best to say quite loudly to any sale sperson that thinks they are Archie & wants to spoil a buying experience,

'Please go and find me another salesperson that wants my custom or your manager.'

& if the other person is not with me in a few minutes, i just leave.

That is the same with any purchase, not just vehicles.

Try an ASG,

Skoda dealers could not be bothered to find one i could try, and when i did get to in a VW, what a shock,

they are on par with those boxes in Smarts & Mitsubishi Colts.

I have only ever driven Autos and the ASG is by far the worse, that is not looking for it to be sporty or that acts like a DSG,

that is just wanting a pleasant city car driving experience in an auto that is suitable for use in 2013-14,

and not worse than something from the 1960's

How far are you from London? Specifically Forest Gate. Preston Motors  Tell Lee Lee sent you :)

If thread starter is looking for a decent main dealer and prepared to travel; I second that recommendation.

I don't have one myself but will, at some time, change my present small, second car for something else and have been looking to see how people find their Citigos. I've decided I won't be buying an ASG, having tried a couple, and indeed very likely won't buy a Citigo at all but like to see what others have to say and if you've not found the "Search" facility useful then I'd suggest finding a period  when you have some time to spare and just going back through past topics and scanning through the ones which will, without doubt, answer all of your questions.

There are discounts available but, as you've been told, you'll have to travel to find them - OR - buy online via a broker.  There are half a dozen established and reliable ones.....I won't repeat them all here again unless asked, but they've all been referred to here numerous times....as have opinions about the ASG box.

The site sponsor is Preston's in Forest Gate, London...must be worth trying them first.  I went to Marlborough Skoda in Isleworth, London to get a discount (I live in Devon)  The salesman who I dealt with has moved to Colbornes in Guildford and he's a star.....there's three recommendations for you.  If you're getting 0% finance then you're saving a bit...maybe try to negotiate free serving too which will equate to a discount.  You won't get a discount over £500 - £600 on a factory order but might get a deal on an in-stock car.  Are you sure you didn't catch the dealer you went to on a bad day? Or did he catch YOU on a bad day?  No-one's perfect.  Certainly I agree some dealers won't entertain discounts...some do - some don't.  Also drive some of the other competitors and see how their dealers treat you.  You might look at the Suzuki Splash or Swift, or the Yaris (which has an economical CVT transmission and is a very safe car (according to NCAP) and has a FIVE year warranty not a three year one. I'd hesitate to mention the new Hyundai i10 ( with 5 yr warranty and 5 yr RAC Breakdown Cover) coming out soon, but it is a brand new version and should sell well (it has a torque convertor gearbox)  I have one myself at the moment (the current model, obviously).

Bit more homework needed I think but hope the site here will be useful to you.

Have a look at the thread "Considering new Citigo" some answers to you questions there. Also consider adding a spare wheel to your extras list, more expensive if bought afterwards as an extra from the dealer. The radio not sure of really, I have Dab in another car I own, not impressed really, but that is an addition rather than a factory fit unit.

The ASG is a bit marmite although IMHO better than some other "automated manuals" I've driven.  We'll end up in the "what is the definition of an automatic gearbox" mode next :D

Slightly disappointingly brief update in view of all the replies and helpful advice given...no indication of what model you bought, or where from or how much or when it's due or how the buying experience went for you.
