^^ Thanks Gizmo ^^

+1 from NHN

I use my HEX-USB+CAN interface with a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 Ultimate and Parallels 8.

Mmmmm Good point Richard. Perhaps I might not tell anyone I have one.

Yeah i get people who ask me all the time if i will code stuff but they don't even know what they want doing or even if its possible. Then they ask you if your available at the weekend but then don't turn up and you never hear from them again. Its frustrating as i don't mind meeting and helping people.

know what you mean. Maybe I need to re-think.

I don't mind travelling and will pay my way ( Beer/Wine/cider tokens )  Will I get use out of it,

I wish I'd done the same to be honest.

My own personal time that's not work or family related is quite short, so using it up to help people I've never heard of is not a valid use of it IMO.

Owning VCDS is certainly not the ideal solution for everyone, most people would certainly be better off getting changes done by someone local who has it.

I was thinking about it a long time before I bought it. I worked on the basis that a lot of my family and some friends have a vehicle in the VAG range and I service there cars for them so seemed logical for me to be able to save even more money on garage fees which in turn is more beer for me! :)

Although still doesn't stop be getting stumped on a fault I have on my car :(

As I am on my third group car it make sense for me, I don't mind helping local people out - but at my convenience and wouldn't entertain a new user that has only just signed up.

I usually specify what beer I drink and have been amazed at how generous some are - having had whole boxes of beer in the past.

Going to be solving that soon.

PM system will be disabled till you're active. Active might be one liked post or 5 + valid ones.

The system does let you like your own posts though.

(Facebook does it too, strangely enough)

You were a star for letting me come down and borrow it (red mk2 with black wheels), if your available any time id like to try on my mk3 :)

Rob

I paid £125 for a perfect condition used Hex-Can lead, works on both the Fabia and the Octavia

I use the free software from the Ross-Tech website

It's invaluable just for checking fault codes if you get an indicator light come on, and I also use it for doing very basic coding changes, but I won't risk it if it's something I'm not sure of

No probs rob just give me a days notice make sure im in.

No problem at all.

You will never regret buying a genuine one thats for sure.

1, best place to buy one and how much are they - many of the resellers offer the hex-can-usb lead for circa £250, Derek at ilexa is my vendor of choice because of his fantastic back up and technical support via their forum.

2, are they easy to use - VCDS is literally idiot proof, tells you whats safe and whats not and even prompts you before you attempt to try something that may cause an irriversable issue.

3, do they work off a Mac book Pro - i've always used it on simple windows XP based laptops or netbooks

4, will it do all Skoda models or are they  model only - VCDS works on all the brands within the VW group inc bentley

5,  any thing else anyone can tell me about them - if you choose to sell your genuine lead you will normally recieve most (at least 75%) of its value back! it's not locked to any particular vehicles, can also scan other brands of car if the EML is on, has its own dedicated database for information, comes with full back up from ross-tech including free updates and cost wise is the most advanced tool of its type available!

It has been very good for me to follow the posts of contributors to this forum post and found those last comments by 'therevrendjr' real useful.

I am a new yeti owner and already frustrated by not being able to select mph as the second speed readout, I know all the arguments for and against kph/mph from Briskoda.net and other forums and nevertheless in this stage of my Skoda ownership would feel more at home with mph.

So checking out the web shows the ability to get the second speed option is to use the VCDS functionality and that leads one back to this really useful forum and the discussions on the subject.

From my perspective shelling out the cash to get a cable and software does appeal as I am a hands on person and being able to do it myself is logical however what if I never use it again then it does not make economic sense.

So notwithstanding the comments of others in this forum posting, yes I am a new joiner and I would willingly compensate someone for their time and use of the VCDS to allow access to the second speed option so if I do make an approach to someone shown in the VCDS availability listing I would be grateful for their help.

Hi,

Having recently bought an 11 plate Octy vRS I'm considering buying the micro-can VCDS, purely as there are a few things I'd like to change, annoying alarm arm/disarm chirp for one. Does anyone have any experience of the micro-can? I don't want to invest in the Hex as it will purely be for a few upfront changes and then occasional use.

Thanks.

I don't have the micro can but if your going to buy it just purely for the reason of making a few changes while it's new to you is it worth buying one?

Why not ask someone local on the briskoda vcds map if they can help?

Just my thought that's all :)

There's no difference in the software or how you use it, just that a micro can cable won't work on older vehicles.
