New Saab 93 Aero

Featured Replies

Bit the dust earlier on my private track. You know the scenario, a round about shaped bend, rolling out the exit circa 40 mph 3rd gear. Flat out through the next couple of gears, inhaling the distinct smell of burning catalytic converters, before Mr. Aero pulled in looking slightly gob smacked >< and I trundled on my merry way.

TBH, he was just getting the better of me at just over triple figures but it was then he gave up, and thus I was successful in my mid afternoon kill.

Glad to have cleared her out, it had been a while ;)

Unfortunately the new 9-3 Aero is utter poo and the slowest Aero Saab have ever produced in recent years. Still, not a bad kill ;-)

wasn't the old aero lighter and 220bhp instead of the 210bhp tank today's model is?

Bosses Aero 2.0T isn't that quick - OK it shifts better than your average car, but for a 210hp car you have to rag its t1ts off to make progress and its not "that" quick anyway - estimate of 60 in 8 seconds I think.

It does have a reasonable amount of torque though so happily chugs along - more of a cruiser than a performer.... Oh, and it drinks fuel like there's no tomorrow!

The old 9-3 Aero was only 205bhp but it was a bit lighter, had more torque (because the proper lump of lead Saab engine could handle it, unlike today's Vauxhall derived crap) and was better geared to get to 60 in under 7 secs. The new Aero is a bit of a let down in performance terms but the chassis is a lot better. Nowt that can't be fixed with a remap and big exhaust though....

I figure it wasn't 'that' fast for a 'performance' car - but he bought it as a performance car - and thus he was astonished when a SKODA, DIESEL managed to roll past him - lol.

It was the lardy new one too.

I really like the look of the Sarb 9-3 Aero :o

I used to love saab's, my dads had had them for about 15 years. He is your typical saab owner, near retirement, cloth cap, the whole lot. I used to until gm added them to thier portfolio. I know times change and things move on, but imo, the saab 9000 2.3 aero takes some beating in terms of outright performance, comfort, and reliability. Alot of die hard saab fans don't like the gm saabs at all. 9000 Handling is a bit barge like, but I love em. You can imagine my suprise when I also calimed a 9-3 kill on my private track. It was an aero convertible. He was on the slip road in front of me and i booted it behind him. he booted it and i stayed behind him until triple figures where i was on his back quarter then before you know it, at silly speeds, i was past him. As i drew along side him, he had a look of total disgust. Then, just to put things into perspective and totally deflate my ego, an evo 8 went past the pair of us flat out.

Has anybody had a go in a 93 breathed on by maptun? WOW. 265 bhp, but feels alot more.

A guy round the corner has 44obhp in his 9000 aero, and is planning 660:eek:

Front wheel drive + 660bhp = funeral if you ask me.

I'm attempting to get the boss to let me have one!! :) I really like them.

My old 9000 Aero only had 438bhp :( And lag you could time with a calendar - was far king quick though :D

Yep, my current SDI :D

Oh and my first car, 5 door Fiat Uno 55S. Was quick in its class though :D

Did maptun do it? They seem to be able to get all that power through the front wheels quite progressively don't they.

Best standard car seats in the world in the saab 9000 aero imo.
