Uniroyal Rainsport 2's for winter & Toyo Proxies T1R's :)

Thanks. How are the toyo proxies for noise?

Kumho ku39, mid range tyre not much noise and wet weather grip is brilliant.

Nankangs.... Amazing ;):D

I found the Proxies were ok noise wise, just utter garbage with any moisture on the road. Not worth their price IMO. I would take the much cheaper Khumo KU39's over those as offered slightly less grip in the dry, but worlds better in the wet.

the good old ditchfinders haha !

Agree with this totally, i just spin up in the wet with them, but there brand new so just running them atm!

Had Uniroyal Rainsport 2's on SWMBO's old vRS, couldn't fault them.

On her current one, she has Got Goodyear NCT's on the rear and Wangkang Nangkang Mitsusushi Fishoil on the front, will be looking to change ASAP.

Has anyone tried Vredestein s ??

I read good reviews about these

Allot of people rate toyo's very good but on website reviewing sites they dont rate them very good :S

I'm not a fan of T1R's at all. They're truly awful in the wet, even a pair of Arrowspeed's were significantly better. I have tried Rainsports which were good but the sidewalls are far too soft for my liking.

I think I'll try a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's next, they always seem to get rave reviews.

Try tyrereviews.co.uk and input Fabia vRS; there's a full breakdown of makes and types of tyres on there with ratings for dry grip, wet grip, feedback, progressive, wear, comfort, and buy again.

Each tyre then gets a % rating based on the number of responses! and he number of miles driven.

Worth a look.

Had uniroyals, were amazing in the wet, but shoulders were to soft and melted. Now i have yokohama prada spec 2's ok in the wet if you dont push hard and are amazing in the dry or wet once you genrate some tyre temperature :)

Currently running Sessanta Ultrac's all round. Similar price to the t1r's but I sooooo much better in the wet and for me, better dry too.

Agree with the comments about soft sidewalks on Rainsport 2's, the tyres always look under inflated.

However, the new Rainsport 3's apparently have a stiffer sidewall according to the numerical rating.

Wanlis - Awful

Toyo T1-r - Midcore, wore out quick

Pirelli P zero - better than T1-r but fast wearing still

Nankang - Awful

Yoko Pradas - Great in the dry, not bad in the wet but watch standing water. Took track day abuse well and wear well.

Rainsports - Opposite of pradas, great in wet, dry grip is good but bit soft.

Falken something's - dunno which model but for £60 a corner they're doing well.

My perfered choice is pradas on summer wheels, rainsports on winter wheels. Falkens if you're skint.

I think I'll try a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 3's next, they always seem to get rave reviews.

I had these on my vRS - best tyre I've ever used.

Previously used on my vRS, PZero Nero, Uniroyal Rainsports, Bridgestone (forget the exact model)

My new car has 'Event' tyres on the rear - it certainly is an event everytime you enter a wet roundabout. They will be getting binned ASAP

Kumho and Falken get my vote as some of the best low end to mid-range tyre out there. Tried the KU31s (now discontinued), the KU39s and the FK453s (not sure they are available in the vRS size yet) on previous cars. Good wear, consistent grip levels and a fairly solid sidewall for good steering feel (important on a heavy front ended car like the vRS)

The good thing about the standard 16s on the Fabia is that even the higher end premium tyres aren't too expensive, well, compared to my previous car and I don't mind paying a bit more personally for a decent set of tyres as they are the contact between you and the road. Not worth skimping on in my eyes!

I echo about Toto T1R's I've tried them and found them sub standard. They were nice and sticky in the summer when roads were dry but any moisture on the surface and once the temperatures dropped they were rubbish. Also flexed more than I'd have liked in the corners unless you upped the pressure a bit. Good for summer/track use but crap in most other situations! If you look at the chart rating they get a G for fuel efficiency and E for wet grip/braking performance... about the lowest I've seen on a so called "performance" tyre.

Agreed can't really get much better for the price

Kumho ku39's or falken ze914's get my vote

Wouldnt put anything cheaper or dearer on! For the price you'd be stupid not to!

I can't notice any difference between kumho's / falkens to top of the range bridgstones / pirelli's etc

Is this yet another Fabia I tyre thread?  Just think of all those poor Kittens! :p

Anyway, here are my views of the tyres I've had:

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3

Pros
Great in the wet and dry. Sliced through deep water and puddles. Elegant tread design (IMHO). Not too bad for tyre wear.

Cons
Useless in snow/sluch ice (same as most summer tyres). Don't like the cold either (rock hard in frost). A little more expensive than others.

Toyo T1-R

Pros

Soft, great in the dry, Good in wet when new. Coped quite well in frost/cold. Reinforced Sidewalls. .Cheaper than above.

Cons

Poor wear, bad in wet when worn (aquaplaned @ 60mph on a sopping wet duel carriageway, when half worn).

Uniroyal Rainsport 2

Pro

Great in Wet, 9mm tread when new. Cheap (if you can find them), approx £150 a pair fitted. Not bad for wear and in dry.

Cons

Not manufactured any more (being replaced by Rainsport 3s). Soft Sidewalls so can be prone to pothole damage.

Goodyear Eagle Ultragrip GSW-3 (Winter)

Pro

Good in wet and cold. Better than Summers in Snow/Slush. Cheaper than some Winter tyres

Cons

10yo Design (Ultragrip 8s should be better). More expensive than most Summers tyres (£220-250 pair fitted). Other winters (eg Conti 850's) may be better. (not tried any other though).

Hankook ventus V12 EVO (k110). ?

I'm currently on a set of Parada Spec II's and I really rate them in the dry. In the wet or even damp I do NOT trust them at all however. Even in the damp I feel on edge when cornering and just envisage myself understeering into a hedge if I even remotely pushed the car :-/  Gonna stick with them for this winter, but I may get a set of summer alloys next year if I can, and keep the Spiders for winter and put Rainsports on them, as I found them excellent in crap weather - lots of grip!

Dunlop sport max rt all round

I found them better than tr1's, Avon zz3's and hankook prime 2's
