Petrol into Diesel Fabia - All help appreciated (Moved from Fabia 2)

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife accidentally put petrol into our 2007 Diesel Skoda Fabia VRS SE. Well long story short I drained all the petrol out and filled it with diesel and replaced the fuel filter. It was only driven a few miles with the mixed fuel.

After taking it out for a run it has started cutting out at 3000 revs or so - Runs perfectly well up to that level. There are now also some warning lights that have appeared. (glowplug and exhaust system warning light)

I have taken it to a mechanic and he reckons its the Crank Sensor that needs replacing. He has quoted 3 hours labour to fit it and part costs £40. So that a total of £240

Do any of you experts out there have a view of whether this is a fair cost and also whether the mixed fuel could result in this issue with the crank? He says he thinks the high pressure fuel filter and injectors are fine.

Or anyone who has had this experience before and resolved it?

 Many thanks for your help

Why would putting in petrol cause the crank sensor to suddenly fail? Sounds a bit dodgy to me and I wouldn't be handing out £240 notes unless I knew for sure that's what it was!

Try disconnecting the battery for a good hour to reset everything and see how you get on.

If the faults come back you could do with getting the codes read by someone with the VAG COM software, bit more in depth than a generic code reader and will probably help diagnose the issue better.

What ratio of petrol to diesel do you think it ran on?

It was a quarter full of diesel and she filled it up with petrol.

It stood for a week after her driving back from the garage (a few miles) and so when it was driven again I think the diesel being heavier and more dense would have been sitting at the bottom of the tank (where the inlet is) - it was driven a few times over very short distances following that before I drove it and realised it wasnt 100% and stopped immediately and siphed a few 100 mils out and could immediately smell the petrol.

i put 15-20 % petrol in WVO in my car regularly... cant you drain the fuel out pur diesel in unplug the battery and give it a go. I think petrol has been known to trip the ahesive fron fuel filters before, but i have never seen it.

I did this but thankfully it was on the forecourt and knew exactly what I had done so it didn't actually run.

I think the £200 odd was better spent to remove all diesel than running it.

Sounds like you need one of those diesel angel type things ! Too late now though I realise but maybe next time !

What I do know is when the guy drained my tank he did get right in there to the very bottom of the tank, I'm not saying its a science of course but they do know what they are doing to get the maximum out the tank - maybe you didn't or have the same kind of equipment (pumps) to do this.

You might still have some contamination hence the poor running? Did you actually ramp up the car to get all the fuel to the back to reach?
