Variable service interval on a 2009 TDi 1.9 Estate

Featured Replies

Hello

Over the weekend we crossed 50,000 miles which reminded me that it was last October and 16,000 miles ago that 'Matilda' told me it was time for a service. I've also noticed that she is producing lower mpg values than she had been a few weeks ago.

Should I be worried that after 16,000 miles there is no indication of a service required yet?

Thanks

Matt

I wouldn't worry. If I remember correctly a variable service can be up to 2 years or 18,000 miles, so expect a reminder any time soon.

Thank you.

Turn the mileometer reset knob to the left and it should tell you how many miles remain until the service.

Really? I didn't know that.I thought turning it left or right altered the hours and minutes of the time clock?

Only when you're in clock setting mode.  Found the "other" use of it quite by accident the other day when trying to reset the clock for GMT; ours says 6800 miles with the little spanner.

How do you do it then?

It's on page 13 of the manual but it doesn't actually tell you what to do with the knob.  Try turning it to the left while the engine isn't running and the computer is showing average mpg.  I'd go and do it now but the Mrs is out with the car.

Just changes the time on mine. Is your car a FL?

Mine is a FL and I get the miles to service if I turn the reset knob anti-clockwise.

I shall try tonight. 'Matilda' rolled off the production line in 2009, registered in Sept' 09 so she is pre f/l?

@ Mike - good point. (My tea consumption has gone up too!)

Hi

For your model press the button down (clock/reset button) and then roll the ingition to the pre-start position.

Should display distance to service then

Thanks

OK so we're post F/L and I'll check this evening. Thanks :)

And we have 2,400 miles until the next service.....and a failed dipped bulb so in a few minutes its outdoors with torch, spanner and sense of humour!

Thanks.

It's remarkable how "variable" basically means "18,000 miles" for almost every car :giggle:
