Chavalier V6

Featured Replies

Whats the power like on a Chavalier V6 then? I just had an interesting return to the office behind one of these, complete with Renault Laguna rear spoiler, another spoiler under that and another on the top of the rear window.

Seemed pretty brisk though he couldnt shake me. Wouldnt say I had enough to overtake though.

About 180bhp IIRC...probably quite a bit ligher than an Octy too...

2.5 V6 lump

168 HP and quoted 7.9 seconds to 60

Being a 6 pot probably pretty torquey.

and an auto, they go well. my mate has one

Drove an automatic one.Felt very slooooow :)

My brother used to have a V6 Vectra, and he couldn't get away from my standard 1.8t Octy L&K. He got away quicker, but, once the turbo got going, he couldn't outrun me!

The earlier ones had a bit more oomph, due to the emissions stuff that they added later. It's not hard to get 'em up to 200bhp, though -you just need inlet, exhaust and camshaft changes.

Pretty even match with a 1.8T Octy. Don't underestimate them - not even the handling.

They wren't the tidiest handlers, but I had a lot of fun with my company cavs, in an understeery kind of way.

If you lined 'em up properly, you could get rounds bends at faintly insane speeds........

Well my mates, sister boyfriends, dogs second owners girlfriend drives one, but it's still a Chavalier ;)

There was a manual one available too, which took a second or so off the 0-60...

Indeed..

IIRC they had Independant rear suspension.. ala GSI2000 and cav turbo.. and were only available as a saloon.

The Cavalier V6 has a solid rear beam unlike the GSI and Turbo and they were available in hatch and saloon.

I had a CDX hatch upped to just over 200 bhp (I worked at MSD at the time building the GSi Vectra so did the same mods and then some) Quick in a straight line, not so hot in the twisties.

Still crappy beam setup on the V6, saloon and hatch versions were available in various trim levels from Cesaro to CDX.

3.0 cams, filter and exhaust will like someone posted previously get you up to and over 200bhp. A lot of V6s run at 180-190bhp without any mods!

I used to have a Cav V6, it did go quite well when it wasn't breaking down. It handled quite well once i had fitted it with Koni's & lowered it about a foot.

How would a Cavalier Turbo compare with an Octy?

Bit more power as std but 4wd to drag it down. They are quick when on form but a large quanity have problems now as they are a bit long in the tooth. Very easy to tune to a reasonable amount of power but need looking after.

P.S dont mess with this one, Cossie manifolds and huge T3 turbo, Omex management and an intercooler from a M.A.N truck, its a beauty to be sure. Hand built from a bare shell by a Vauxhall techie mate of mine.
