Could always remove the passenger seats as well and save even more weight!

Its a one-seater, honest..

I shouldn't really as I have a 22 mile each way trip to work now! Taking a bit of a risk!

Now theres an idea for the national meet! :D

Depends if you're risk-adverse, or risk-loving? My commute is a 52 mile round trip, most at serious speed, so would never risk not having a spare to fall back on. Removing the rear seats is an option....? :D

what about removing the doors aswell :D

What about using the thinner MDF,and using cut-off's to make supporting ribs underneath ?

some of us need to use the boot space - so cannot afford to fill it with Sub's -- so some nice large rear speakers fitted to a nice sturdy shelf should be a good compromise - shouldn't it ?

or line the underside of the std shelf with mdf and screw the spks in from below.. its the material the spks are mounted to that matters :D

Hmm -- would you need to cut any holes to allow full transmission of sound - or will it travel anyway -- if it works would be grate - saves trying to make a shelf match, and yet still gives stealth install -- as long as its strong enough to take the extra weight.

If you want to do it that way , cut a sheet of MDF to match the shelf.

Cut speaker holes in both the MDF and shelf.

Screw the MDF to the bottom of the shelf , then cover the shelf with fabric/carpet to suit.

Attach speakers to bottom of MDF.

You will lose much of the sound if you don't have holes in the shelf.
