Flat Battery Slow Discharge What To Check?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I purchased a Skoda Octavia Combi 1.6 TDI 4x4 this summer and very recently, since it started getting colder, I have had trouble with my battery. The car won't start and the battery is low/flat. It has happened a number of times now, including once in the summer when I left the car at an airport car park. I assumed I had left a light on or something on that occasion. However, this last time I left the car since Friday and today, Sunday, it won't start. It is definitely the battery.

I am not a mechanic so please ignore my ignorance but could it be that I have a slow discharge on the battery? Something is not turning off entirely? Does anyone know if this could be the case and in addition where/how I can check what the root cause of the problem might be?

Many thanks

Chris

more than likely your battery has a duff cell in it

What radio do you have?

+1 probably needs a new battery

as above, the battery has probably had it. The ones fitted to cars nowadays are not designed to last long like in older cars.

You can get them tested at garages etc so they can tell you if its dud or not

Battery isn't big enough. If I remember rightly it's only 61ah whereas the one fitted to my old bora was 75ah or similar.

I've had this problem since day one. I've just bought a £14 charger from aldi to keep it topped up over the winter. There is actually nothing wrong with my battery but the interior lights and coming/leaving home lights take their toll with the cold weather. A weekly overnight charge should keep it going a while longer until I bite the bullet and get a higher rated battery.
