Few problems after fitting FMIC

Featured Replies

Hi guys run into a few problems after I fitted my fmic (Airtec)

Bit of history on the car

Engine ASZ

Was remapped before i bought it to around 160bhp with standard pd130

Serviced 5000k ago

Standard pd150(ARL) turbo fitted

elephant mod

Allard EGR delete

Everything else is standard.

I bought the FMIC as I had found a big hole in my side mount after buying all the pipes to make the diy top boost pipe set up... typical!

First problem

The mounting brackets were to close together to sqeeze the intercooler into so had to take the rubber bushes out and pull them apart abit is this normal?

Second problem

Ive treble checked all pipe connections and they all are fine so cant be a boost leak. When going up the revs in 4th, 5th and 6th at 2500 it jumps to 3000 and kinda hangs until it catches up if that makes any sense?

I was just wondering if this is because the standard map is freaking out because there is no more boost leaks and new components?

I still have to reset the ECU to see if that works.

I also have a coolant leak which this seems to have accelerated it! does that mean its head lift? :(

Alot of coolant splashes around the driver headlight and under the expansion tank... cracked bottle maybe? hopefully!

I know its alot to read but any help or insight knowledge would be much appreciated!

Sounds like the clutch slipping to me mate. Maybe because the boost leak you had before was masking it a bit?

Yup sounds like clutch slip to me.

Was coolant expansion tank level higher than usual?

Any mayo under dip stick and oil filler cap?

Sounds clutch slip, could be a poor spikey torque map or its just been on its way out.

Not really what I wanted to hear! :P what would be recommended adjusting the remap or getting solid flywheel and clutch first? I don't really have the money for a new clutch at the moment.

No mayo on cap or dipstick.

Put original map on and see how it is.

Your running a pd130 remapped file on a pd150?

Pm John Fabooka (beloe) get him to look at it for a small cost, he's one of the only people who knows what he's talking about and writes maps from scratch, he's done many members maps with no issues.

Only options really are a map tweak or upgrade/replace clutch.

Where would I find an original map for the car? Possible to save the current map with my galletto cable? Reflash it back if it doesn't fix it?

Sounds like clutch slip.

Clutch slip and head lift

Trade it in

Possibly £1500 bill ahead

I'm with you jase.

That's why I'm thinking head lift asking about expansion tank and mayo.

He could get away with tends to take out the headgasket though.

It gets to a stage when its throwing good money after bad

I recently got rid of my leon fr pd150. Don't get me wrong i loved the car but it was just getting to that stage in its life

Turbo was suffering overboost

Then just started mounting up. Driveshaft was the final straw (actually think it was the gearbox) i just thought stuff it and traded it in

Only had the car 4 months not really an option. Already done the turbo and timing belt and water pump. I do all the work myself will that cut costs a little???

A new Sachs clutch, dmf and slave is only like £305 from carparts4less online.

Any idea the price for the solid conversion?

And for all the parts for the head including the 150 head bolts

A helix kit is about £900 I think. No idea about the head stuff.

Let me know your ecu code and I'll send a standard file over.

How do I find my ecu code? Is it possible to save my current map somehow? So I can flash it back or should I just keep the standard map till I get a reputable mapper to look at it.

If using the galletto. Do an ecu I'd and note the hardware and software numbers down.

If using VCDS. Select the engine ecu and note the details there.

In regards to your bit about a reputable mapper, speak to Faboka just above this comment. I've heard nothing but great things about his maps and so am getting mine done by him too!

Got the VCDS to read it no problem but couldnt get the Galletto cable or KWP2000+ to work at all.

Here is the VCDS reading.

This is the error Galletto threw up. It read it successfully when i first got the cable so not sure what happened.

And KWP was unable to read communication protocol.

Your using the wrong ecu in galletto . You have picked edc15v. You want edc15p.
