Standard vrs vs civic type r?

Featured Replies

First off let me say I'm not a racer..or a chav,,,I'm just interested in how much off type-r pace my standard vrs octy is in the real world?

Probably a fair bit. Vrs is down 20bhp and 100kg heavier

Plus handling wise the type r will be vastley superior.

On powere tho the vrs will be better. Tge type r needs to be up past 6k rpm before power is there. The vrs is down around 3k

The type-r still accelerates pretty good at low revs

Nothing a remap wont sort :D

I looked at a type r before buying my octy and tvh i thought it was a55 :(

Nosey as hell and built to the quality of a big mac your average macky d's

Matching is hard to say tho, whos driving, how far they push it, how they launch it

Day to day on a normal run in mate.... Prob could go either way

:D a nice random post for u to read

Sorry

Having done a few blasts out & about with my mate in the past, I've got my 2p worth to throw in here.

First of all, can we assume that both drivers in both cars were driving in a spirited manner?  Also, seeing as we were able to chat afterwards & confirm certain things then the usual traffic light scenario (with the normal was he/wasn't he trying?) is null and void.  We also drove each others cars on a regular basis so we knew how they performed compared to our own.

I loved the Type R.  Regardless of what people say I agree with BrownBarge, they do pull quite well even when out of Vtec.  It outclassed the vRS in the handling & braking stakes by quite some margin.  It required far more work to get it moving but in turn was more rewarding to drive.  The Skoda had more torque as standard so was easier to drive but it felt gutless in 180bhp guise anyway I always thought.  You felt more connected in the Honda than in the vRS and it was far better screwed together than my Skoda - less rattles & annoying stuff like that bloody glovebox rattle. :wall:

However, after a decent stage 1 remap (another thread in itself) I had the edge in a straight line by quite a bit. After putting the Whiteline ARB on I could maybe just about hang on in the corners but I was sweating & swearing to do so.  The standard suspension on the Skoda was far too floaty and on undulating corners I made it out more by luck & sheer determinedness than the car's ability.

I had the Skoda for over six years and only sold because we have three kids & they didn't fit.  I loved that car as much as anyone else on here but I knew it's limitations.  For fun buy the Honda.  As a family barge, the vRS is by far the better car.

There, my 2p worth.

Bizzarly I had a little bit of sport with a 57 plate one today on my private road, I was following in my vrs (decatted and CIA) and there was nowt in it on a straight line and if anything I was gaining. We were both going for it but I think if you threw in a couple of corners he would of put some distance between us.

Been a honda man since birth nearly driven alot of them and built some interesting ones.

All this depends really. Standard for standard? Modded Vs modded?

Standard: If the Type r driver catches it in the wrong gear, the Vrs will eat it alive. Torque Wins

Standard: Type r catches the right gear you can wave the thing goodbye and listen to the beautiful howl they make at 8K

Modded vs modded.

Vrs stage 2'd intake/decat/exhaust - 230/240+ Hp vs a Ep3 Type R with KPRO (Stage 1) Intake, manifold, exhaust your looking at 230+ but about 100ft-lbs less torque however 100 kegs lighter.

the above would be interesting, but i think the EP3 would edge ahead, Vrs runs out of puff at 6k'ish Civic makes PEAK power around 7,600'ish.

I have a little video i found on the tube

Stage 1 vrs vs a stage 1 equivalent Ep3 - Pretty laughable tbh.

Pretty impressive stuff.  The sound is amazing!

lol that vid was carp :giggle: 200k octy with a chip vs a fairly heavy modded type r thats stripped. about 30bhp more and 200kg always gonna get slaughtered.

stage 2 kills standard type r  hybrid......well :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

or the k20 really is awesome and i should of fitted one

Type R is a better drivers car and would be quicker around a track, no doubt about it. In the real world driving there's probably not much difference in acceleration. I've owned an Integra Type R (similar power to weight to Civic Type R) and also driven my mate's EP3 Type R.

If you want a comfy, quiet, brisk motorway cruiser then the VRS is great. If you want a more sporty and engaging drive and don't mind the increased running costs then the Type R is the one to have.

do people find the vrs cheap to run then? crap on juice high tax always wanting for parts and the insurance isint exactly welcoming come renewal time :giggle:

That video is very similer to what happened to me....nothing worse then giving your car the beans and still seeing and hearing your brothers type r leaving you behind :) that was when mine was standard, his had exhaust and filter, never did get a rematch as he sold his Honda before I got my remap etc.... :)

I drove my mates 05 type r last week. Its got a very loud magnex on it and the noise when the vtech kicks in is something else. But, they are really uncomfortable. I couldn't live with it. Mine is on lowering springs and its still way more comfortable. Performance didn't seem miles apart although mine has been mapped. Standard v standard the Honda takes it I think. Nothing has gone wrong engine wise as you would expect with a Honda but he has had two water leaks inside the car due to door seals and boot seals. And it goes through a lot of front tyres. And he doesn't really hammer it. OK for a track day but every day use it wouldn't be my choice. And no air con either!

Air con was £1000 option lol

Yeah, air con an option! I thought it'd been standard for years!

Lets discuss vrs against mk5 golf gti :)

Heavily modded i dont think so! most average Type R enthusiasts have exactly those mods!

i said fairly! anything more than zhaust and filter is fairly in my eyes :giggle:

Cant be doing with revving the nuts off an engine to get anywhere so turbo wins for me every time.

Its ok for a couple of hours but I soon tire of it now. Although that's maybe old age setting in!

You can't compare the two it's like comparing a lambo aventador and a porsche panamera ( please excuse the spelling )

The type R is a light weight hot hatch. The octy is a large saloon car with a decent engine.

I worked for honda for 10 years and saw all the vti and typeR's come through you would be better off comparing the vrs with an accord type R not a civic. Just my 2p worth.
