Nice but we'll never see it over here officially

I've driven both and handling wise (I have stock setup) Octavia is nowhere near the type r. Seat comfort in the type r also eclipses the iffy. But if you want to get the best out of it you really have to be dropping down gears and pushing the vtec which is where the fuel economy sucks! Motorway speeds v standard vrs: then vrs wins

Off the mark standard v standard (drag strip) civic wins

Remapped octy v type r (drag strip/private road ((through experience)) then octy all the way.

Two totally different cars aimed at totally different markets though at the end of the day.

We could go on all day about the practicality of the octy and the 'q' car appeal and lets be honest, the majority of people buy them as we have a family but want something practical as well as sporty. So as an all rounder there is no beating the octy!!

At least one has made it over  ...

I'm gonna get in on this thread before we move on.

I have just got myself an Octy VRS estate (had it just over a week) and changed to this due to upcoming newborn.

I also currently have an EP3 civic type r, stardard other than induction kit, had this car just over a year.

Overall I can't agree more with Skinnyman.

Civic out handles, out drags and def makes a far better noise.

But....is noisy in the cabin, tiresome if you just want to potter to work / shops etc, and does take a bit more tlc overall, brakes are quite sensitive to keep running sweet.

I used a phone app to chart my MPG, overall after 10k in a year, I averaged 30mpg. Not bad I thought!

Now the Octy, love the torque, love the smooth & quietness compared, though the seats aren't as good as the type r, and love the build quality compared too, everything makes a nice thud.

Before my civic I had a mk4 bora tdi for 4 years and generally not bad reliability. Hoping the Octy will be strong in this dept.

but I never once worried the civic wouldn't start even if the rest of the car was tinny and plasticky!

For an everyday car, I'm glad I have the VRS, easy to drive at regular speeds, will do everything I want I'm sure, but having already pushed it a little, I wanted to be in my civic.

Octy was only 2/3 of the price to insure compared to type r, tax is even and parts look to be similar overall.

Lets discuss vrs against mk5 golf gti :)
