Has your car been mistaken for another make?

Featured Replies

I only ask as I was in Cardiff last weekend and twice my VRS was mistaken for another car. The first was when the security at the place I was parking asked me what make the car was and when I said Skoda they looked genuinely shocked and said how good it looked for a Skoda!

The second was later in the evening when I parked opposite a pub and then as I walked in I was approached by a guy who asked whether my car was the new Audi A4 or A6 and how smart it looked. When I said it was a Skoda he said he couldn't believe it and thought it looked really smart and he didn't realise Skoda made cars that looked as good as that!

Skodas do look extremely smart nowadays. I really think the Mk111 Octy is a definite step up from the Mk11.

One of the best looking cars out there, second only to something like the Jaguar XF (drooling uncontrollably)

Personally (and please don;t take this the wrong way) I think that is half the problem with the look of the new Octy III - it looks TOO much like an Audi A4...

The old Octy II was more distinctive, if less 'refined'...

Nope, an Audi is an Audi.

I've noticed that it's hard to get let out/in to traffic in my car,

people 'close the door' deliberately rather than have an Audi in

front of them. But i've gotten used to that.

When I'm in the van however the traffic parts like Moses parted

the red sea, it would seem that they think I'm going to go anyway

or do something 'white vannish' and just tend to let me in more or

less every time...  So I bounce around in that most of the time...

I can see your point, but having looked at the A4, I still think the Octy has a more understated, yet smart, look to it. The Audi isnt understated as much, and isnt as smart as the Octy either

I'll let you know what people say when I get mine :(

Judging by the way people get out of your way on the outside lane of the motorway, especially at night, I suspect some people mistake it for an unmarked police car.

As for people looking at it my mate says it looks like a cheap BMW rip off. But then he drives a kia so I don't pay much heed.

I like having a Skoda. Don't get grief off people for having a fast car, all Skodas are apparently "sensible".

Draping a hi viz jacket over the back of the passenger seat makes them get out of the way even quicker! One benefit of working at an airport!

A Rover 45 I assume? Well they do both have that 'grandad' type look about them. Not bad cars the old Rovers though.

He he - I often get the same in the Fabia as you do in the ban but it is Y-reg and have about 6 months of muck and tree sap on it (really must clean it as it's starting to grow stuff!).  Had a guy in a BMW yesterday try to 'close the door' as I pulled out into a decent sized gap in traffic so I just carried on regardless...   old Skoda vs new BMW - who has more to lose???

We were going out at work for a celebratory lunch. My brilliant female boss was in the back of my Superb as I had offered to drive.    She pipes up, "Pesmog your Mercedes is so much nicer than my husbands one, I have got vastly more room here in the back than in his, what version is it ? "     :giggle:     Bless her, She may be a really intelligent woman with a PhD, but cars are clearly not her strong point..

What was her response when you pointed out the badge to her?!!

Everybody wears Hi Viz in cars nowadays and think they are someone important.

Daughters mate asked how my Renault was going. I wouldn't have minded but I traded my red (shed) 1.2 clio in 2 years previously which even though he was p1ssed it would still be difficult to mistake for a blue vRS. Bless him.

I didn't

So wanting to keep her thinking you are more important than you really are?

I like it!

Some body once said to me didnt know you drove a scobby imprexa to that I said its a octy vrs (mrk2 fl)

Yes, happens alot.

BMW and Audi suggestions are the most common. Came out of Homebase to find 4 employees (on fag break) looking at the car and they said they didnt believe their mate who said it was a skoda.

Just turn round and say-

"It isnt, I just rebadged it. Its really a Lada"!!!
