Internet Explorer fails to update to v. 11

Featured Replies

According to to the update history on my Windows 7 (64) system, Internet Explorer 11 has failed update in the background on 7 separate occasions in the last two days - I get error code 9C59. unfortunately, this code isn't listed on the error code Web page which Microsoft has carefully designed to pop-up when this install fails.

I've looked on t'internet for solutions - the main ones being SP 1 and Net Framework related. I've already got SP 1 installed on my system and , have today,  installed a Net Framework update and then gone on to  check with Windows update that there are no other updates queued for installation, that is other than the IE Explorer 11. But still it refuses to update.

I'm currently running IE 8.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Might not sound helpful but don't use IE.

Hi do an error check and restart pc, let windows' load up leave for atleast  15 minutes so all earlier processes and re try from windows update don't forget to restart pc once IE 11 has installed.

Try un-installing it, then run WIndows Update and let it install it.

I have it on my system (64-bit version), I don't use it though, however it was installed via Windows Update.

Noticed the IE11 didn't install on my wife's PC when I was running the update today. Not too bothered - I think I've converted her to FireFox.

Having read about the ongoing issues with IE 11 I would consider my self lucky; as of today it is "broken" again and refusing to play nicely with some other M$ products and web pages..

I would stick to reliable browsers like FireFox - or Chrome if you like wearing hair shirts.

Solved !

Did a bit more research this evening and found this page:-http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2847882/en-us

Found that my system needed a couple of the updates on this page.

So I downloaded and installed them.

Following  a system restart, a third update  automatically installed itself in background via Windows Update.

After a further restart, I was able to fully install IE11. Sorted !

I found that this also had the added benefit that it also cured a long standing problem I had been having with MS Outlook where hyperlinks embedded in E-mails refused to work and generated an error message when clicked-on. Now all's well.

A well spent IT half-hour . . for a change.

I hope you have a viable alternative; I wasnt joking about IE11 being unreliable, slow and buggy.

I know, "The mountains shall fall, . . . and the seas shall rise, . . and there will be a terrible darkness across the land" unless you have Firefox, Chrome and/or Opera installed and possess a screen-based android phone.

. . . Well, just in case, I have got F, C, & O (Hah !) installed.

I do take your point that the others are lighter and quicker, but these things are always a trade-off. My feeling is that the other browsers might not be proof against the full range of unwanted intrusive attacks.

All my system is set-up with MS products, head to foot, so I try to do as little as possible to disturb the interfaces there.

IE is probably the worst, given it interwoven-ness to the OS.  Or at least it was.  Mind you I am a Chrome boy, so I would slate IE :-)

In the yearly browser contests, IE is ALWAYS the first to get hacked. ALL of them get hacked eventually, but there are so many 3rd party security enhancements for FF (not sure about the others), that it makes it very difficult to get anywhere. In fact, 3 of the last 4 malware infections I have had were down to trying IE to access a site when FF refused; now if FF refuses to load a website I assume the site is hacked and loaded with malware (still trying to figure out the 4th, but it was a real pain to remove - had to do it manually!!!)

IE11 is so badly written that even the DEVELOPERS cant figure out what is going wrong.

How about just trying to install IE11 directly (www.microsoft.com/ie), I did this yesterday and it installed fine, so got to be worth a shot.  I wonder if the OPs machine is failing with another required update which is causing the IE update to then abort.
