Slamming the boot lid on Estate

Featured Replies

I got a question for all Estate owners. Does anyone else find the trunk lid hard to close? You really have to slam it quite hard to get it to lock properly. Dealer said this is by design but should get better over time. It's the only thing that's sort of bothering me since I'm used to slower and softer closing from my Mk1.

Should I get used to it or is it something that can be adjusted?

  • No - in fact I'd say it was the opposite.  It's too easy to slam, feels like someone is trying to destroy the car when swmbo "closes" the boot.   Though to be fair I don't think gentle is in her voc

If it's not a problem than why would someone of seriously opened the topic... I have this issue, and it's not down to particularity. It is a nuisance...

  • New VAG car I've just got unfortunately has it by default.  Thought I'd broken it the first time I "lifted" the tailgate. Unfortunately not, but the wife and kids love the novelty.   I've just loade

It was like this on the hatch loan car I had, quite annoying as there were a couple of occasions that I drove off with it not closed properly.

Power tailgate stops this issue on my estate

Nope, just press a button and it closes :D

Was tempted with electric boot option when ordering but had to draw a line at one point  :(

Can't say I've noticed it on mine really but then I am super strong pmsl

I haven't found this, an easy pull on the rubber does the job

I guess I'll have to visit the dealer and compare it with other Estates there. The only way to be sure.

Me too.

Find it easy to close. Pull the tailgate down with the pull handle, the last 2ft pull a little harder, let go and stand back, it shuts itself !

Yes, pull the handle and stand back, shuts everytime....simples!!!

Pressing the button is very hard to do.

We find all the doors need a good slam to shut, then again the Fabia rear doors leaked.

I have this on mine, on about three occasions now I have set off and the interior light has stayed on and I have realised the boot is not shut properly. So you are not on your own...

Yeah, same here. Slams very easily when closing via the rubber pull.

Sounds like it needs adjusting -easy enough, but best left for the dealer in case of any potential paint rubbing etc.

So it's an easy fix? No need to replace the whole locking mechanism?

I haven't seen your car, so couldn't say with any certainty. But there are usually some adjustments that can be made fairly easily. I'm thinking it's probably more the stops that the latch itself. I haven't examined an Octavia estate in any great detail, but I have had this problem with other cars myself.

Will get my dealer to look at it. Good to know there is a possibility of an easy fix.

If I slam the boot lid on my hatch the filler flap pops open!

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

Just hope they don't include this motorised shutting in the new Scout.  My dog could have got in and out so many times by the time the bloody thing closes...except when he gets out he hides under the car and goes "limp" like one of Dali's clocks (yes, Clocks).  Needs to be dragged from underneath risking further scratches to valance  and bumper.  Call me a Luddite, but some things should remain as options rather than being foisted on you in the neverending "spec arms race".

Another thing to be coded out with VCDS if I can...

The power boot is an option.  Shame about your dog, ours just sit there waiting patiently.

I've just loaded my winter wheels which were a tight squeeze.  Normally I would test this by almost closing, but this system is a bit digital (open or closed) so I don't know what would have happened if the wheels didn't quite fit.

My dog has a death wish.  I can't even turn my back before he's away chasing sheep/deer/pheasants/rabbits/stoats etc.- in fact anything except me.  He needs constant supervision which means staying outside with him in all weathers for however long "it" takes whereas my other Lab only ever goes outside to check whether he's woken up by accident and the world is still out there. He's lucky to have a functioning brain cell after he walked under a tree as it fell over, whereas "Vector" has a MENSA IQ and a Houdini attitude all wrapped up incorrectly in a Labrador body with a GPS collar. Can't quite work out whether he's more of a challenge than my oldest teenage son but love them both (mostly).

Seriously! I'm going to start a new topic tilted 'I find it hard to open my glove box'.

There is nothing wrong with your car! Please don't waste your dealers time in this.

If there's something in the way it'll just stop and sound a beep, then you just open it and remove the obstruction.

The boot Lid on my VRS is a very frisky Little so and so if you just gentle push it as the Wife does it tries to Blow the Windows Out and the pressure Wave is enough to rupture your eardrum - Wife now understands this as i demonstrated to her while she was sät at the wheel ( Hee Hee !!!!). She now assists it and lets go at the Last second.
