Folding - We need more members!

For any info check out this link:

Basically involves a small client which sits down in your taskbar and number crunches work units - doesn't use barely any downloading use, and does not slow down your PC whilst you're working on it (but uses the full potential whilst its running & not being worked on ;))

Please, anyone who uses their computer a lot, maybe has powers over a network in their office, or just generally wants to help out! SIGN UP! :)

Now we're doing so well (into top 300 out of 38000 odd) lets make a big push and aim for the top 200.:cool:

:bump: According to the "top 1000" teams we had the biggest single WU production score total in the team's history - 3380 points - now up to 282 in the rankings! http://statsman.info/folding2stats

Done

One of my machines at home died last w/e - probably overheated from serious number crunching - so it'll be a few more days before I get passed ColinD! ;)

 nice one Dave!

We can be up there with overclockers Australia in no time! :D

Just added myself...

AAAAAAAAAAAa i jsut lost my little red thingy in the corner:( well ok not just-was about an hour or two ago!! and i cant get it back!!!

signed up... pc isn't that fast but it's on pretty much 24/7....

Excellent news , we look forward to your work units. Dont be alarmed at how long they take as some take longer than others. Processor speed is unimportant its the taking part that counts.

 Doesn't need to be fast - I started off with an Athlon 750 which was OK. I think I'm right in saying the first unit is a tester and it knows what size to send you depending on the speed? Might be wrong though.

Every work unit counts toward the team score, so I'm sure Briskoda welcomes all new people signing up. :D

Steve

proxy? I dunno what you're on about. :D proxy server is that?

I should think the average home user could be very productive with just 3 or 4 PCs hooked up to a router like my Netgear.

Yes, proxy server Jase. Bain of my bloody life that thing. Stuffs up quite a lot of things...

"average home user"

How many avergage homes have three or four networked PC's?

ON our street - 6 houses.........three with PC's........only one of those houses has more than one and a network.....ours.......

But as I don't really have use of three of the 5.5 machines here.......and the other two are mission critical, I bowed out of the folding scene to keep my systems pared down and stable.

I'm looking into the whole mini-pc scene again to get one purely for folding, but it's an expensive business to get one that can easily be put to other uses later.

And I've got 300 PC's spare between hours of 6pm and 7am, that are usually left on (as far as anyone knows for sure). But if I loaded the folding software onto them, I'd lose my job for interfering with University Resources...... :( Lunacy.....

I admit average was probably pushing it. I have two PCs hardwired to my Netgear, although only this one I'm on now is used for computing, the other is just a folding machine, when its on. The laptop is the best one though, and its just wirelessly working.

I should think even a PC with a 56k connection would do well, as it only needs a net connection to upload & download at the end & beginnings of a work unit. The rest of the time its just crunching. :)

Nice to see some more faces. Stick with it! Progress can appear slow and sometimes a work unit can take 2 days. But once on the leaderboard, you're there on the net to say "I helped!"

edit: May actually not have been in entire history, but I don't remember higher. :D

Any of the new starters finished a work unit yet? The table doesn't seem to have had any new members appear down the bottom since I started this thread. :)

We just over took Jon and were heading your way ....misspiggy is slow though spends too much time on messenger....doesn't give the computer any spare time

Just waiting to upgrade the op system on my new PC (probably a re-format) but will join the team when its done!

got a WU (my first!) due to finish tomorrow morning :)
