:bump: According to the "top 1000" teams we had the biggest single WU production score total in the team's history - 3380 points - now up to 282 in the rankings! http://statsman.info/folding2stats

Thats a good point....

/me goes off to see whats going on

I've just got a new test machine for a project I'm involved in.

Needless to say, there's now a Dell Poweredge 750 crunching away, when it's not doing Netbackup tests......

I'm still on the lookout for a basic PC for use as a P2P downloader and folding machine at home. Using a laptop for it at home makes it a little pointless really as it spnly switched on 2-3 hrs a day.

What is the biggest single factor influencing speed of folding? RAM or CPU?

I suspect as it's number-crunching it will come down ultimately to the CPU power, although RAM will play a factor, it's probably not that significant on a modern box :D

well, my first WU finished this morning.... 12 frames into the next one now lol ;)

Where can I find a list of the teams above us and their scores etc.. Tried in vein but cant find anything.

hey we've moved up to #280 :D

and I'm finally showing on the team stats page!!

Quick question: how long on average does it take to complete a WU??

Depends on the speed of your computer and how long it is on for also some units of 5,000 will go like crazy and then a 125 will take 5 days.....some large ones will take weeks....

basically how long is a piece of string answer

As well as the statsman site mentioned by Jason, you can see how we are doing at http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_users.php?s=&t=42567.

You can see who we are poised to overtake, who are threatening to overtake us, and lots of other interesting details.

Is there a folding client that will run stealthly in the background? maybe as a service without the system tray icon? If so I can easily bring 6 more PC's into the team ;)

There is the console client that runs as a service with no icons.

download fah502-console and configure it from a command prompt.

If you use the command line version of the program, when you run it the first time it will give you the option to install as a service... so it will start with the computer and have no icons ;)

make sure you dont get into trouble tho

Wont get into trouble for it - just want to avoid being asked "whats this flower for on my screen"

We're talking here about people that refer to an excel spreadsheet as "the screen" and say "how do i make the screen better" when word needs zooming in a little before going in and changing the screen res to make the text bigger on the document.

I've now got a small folding farm going, well more of a "small holding" actually. Hopefully when they finish their work units I'll be propelled up the user ranks ;)

One of my pc's at home has been working on the same wu now for 10 days, and its been on 24/7. My calculation is that it should finish today during the afternoon. It had better be worth something.

its amazing how interesting/addictive a bunch of numbers can be

Right being that i have 5 networked pc's at home, and access to 2 dedicated machines(all mine) at uni where i work, possibly more depending ;) - also at work i may run into proxy server probs too like mentioned previously - but will give it a go - Emmerdale here i come

Will let you know how i get on ;)

I can confirm that once installed te text only version runs in full stealth mode - a user will never know its on there, runs as a service.

Looks like am hooked up at work, wouldnt connect at first, so told it to use Internet explorer settings(in configure window) and now works a treat :D

Hmmm - wonder if they'd notice it on our big powerful servers? :rubchin:

I ran it on our servers for a bit, but I dont anymore thats why I have fallen off number 1 on the leaderboard. I still have 7 CPU's but previously was running with 15.

will this run on linux/unix servers, as i just so happen to be friends with our unix admin guy, whos got access to SGI's too :D

Oh n now i've got two machines running, with a further to be added quite soon - in fact being that iam in the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing at uni, i may just be able to convince around 300-400 staff to do it  (can try for nothing - all in the aid of research  )

Just make sure they sign up to our team! (team 42567)

There is a Unix/Linux version, check the download page on the folding website.
