Condensation in front light

Featured Replies

Most VAG cars ive had have suffered with this to some degree, its normal so long as its not actually filling with moisture and sloshing about....then you probably have a moisture ingress issue care of a dodgy seal.

Not just VAG, I've had the same on Vauxhalls, I used to work for them so had plenty of brand new cars as company cars, changing every couple of months - Astra, Vectra, Tigra, Omega, Cavalier, Corsa, Frontera, Calibra, Meriva etc etc. Admittedly in the mid-90s, but they did the same, especially if they are jet washed every week (or day sometimes!).

Warm air meeting cooler air in damp conditions in something thats not hermetically sealed (none of the lamps on these cars are entirely air-tight....they'll have some IP rating I expect but they'll be ingress resistant rather than ingress proof) typically means some mild condensation.

The pictures Ive seem above are pretty typical of this, really is nothing to worry about. Its also exaggerated by the fact the lamp units are completely clear and such condensation is very easy to see. A headlamp swimming in water on the other hand would be a problem.

Granted,

But in a car that was only hours old? Doesn't give the greatest impression? Never had it on any of my previous cars including Audi and BMW.

I don't think physics cares how old the car is.....

Absolutely, not isolated to VAG cars in any way

Probably been jet washed a matter of hours before you collected it.

Thats what the dealer said......

Happy enough, hasn't done it again and the dealer once again was spot on with the service!

Yes, accept that condensation will happen.

All the same though my Octavia 3 is definitely worse for this than my Octavia 2 (Pre FL) was.

Both Halogen - Octy 2 with projector lens, Octy 3 both beams reflector.

Bringing the topic up

Octi was in underground parking for around 8 hours then i took her for wash. When I was checking around, i recognized some condensation on the left bottom part of passenger side lamp. Left it for the night and checked it in the morning, it was still there but no drops at the bottom of the whole thing.

Took it out, and used the dryer, now looks okay. Tried to have a look for any holes - as well no problem with seal as far as I could see. This plastic cover on the back side came to my mind, 1 month ago during servicing, they told me there was a problem with one of the bulbs and they changed it. I still have the warning light running all the time though:)

Just tried to push the cover better, hoping it wont happen again, I believe it is not normal

We have had heavy rain since yesterday, the passenger side headlight seems to be foggy now :(

I cannot take it off and clean up all the time, any idea guys?
