PD150 hybrid turbo - is a fmic necessary?

It is very beneficial

I did suffer heat soak at remapped power on a stage 1 map.

Basically a stage 1 on standard everything gives you one good run through the gears. Try do it again and there is very little power

the 130 turbo is smaller and even when mapped it will push less air through than a 150 and even less than a 150 hybrid. Remapped a 130 will produce 170-175bhp (with realistic rollers) but it will top out before a 150 turbo due to the size of the impellers so doesnt need as much in the way of cooling.

its the pure volume of air being forced through the ic with a bigger turbo that warrants a fmic. With a mapped 130 your getting less air forced through just forced through quicker than a standard 130.

Cooler the charge air going into the engine the better, regardless of state of tune a FMIC is better at the job :)

Just depends if you want to spend the money imo on a lower powered car that does not need the extra cooling.

Ah ok, so it's the size of the turbo not the power it makes.

More pressure mean more heat.

I thought. Clutch, flywheel, fmic and brakes go hand in hand for fitting a hybrid pd150

depends what map I suppose? With 230bhp a clutch would definitely benifit from an upgrade and it would be good to have to confidence your brakes can stop you sharpish.

But like everyone has said it varies between what each person wants from their car. You can have 230bhp and drive like a pensioner and not need a fmic/clutch/brake upgrades but on the other hand you can have standard 130bhp and drive like ken block, in which case all of those upgrades will be beneficial.

If you know what i mean ;)

Just a remap (from the great faboka)

And I really think uprated brakes is next on the list . After xmas... its not good when you need them and get a spunge pedal. Then when you stop you hear a puff and smoke comes from your wheels. Lol

thimk my list will go in order.

Brakes. Clutch flywheel. Fmic. Hybrid pd150

Already on remap. Rarb. Very good tyres. Polybush engine torque support link. Polybush console bushes ... different car

IMO there are two schools of thought...

1) Tune it for more "urge" in normal day to day situations. - Mild remap it - aim for 200 BHP (300-320lbft) whilst keeping boost and torque to levels the clutch and intercooler+pipework can handle. (handle in the not fall apart sense, not heat management/cooling).

2) Tune it for maximum performance. - Take it to 230 BHP with 350lbft or so of torque. This really needs a clutch as well as FMIC and ideally, complete pipework.

Arguably option "1)" doesn't need a FMIC .... Until a hot summer's days sees the power fall off pulling up a hill on the motorway. The SMIC isn't really going to do the job when using the extra boost/power.

Other than cooling considerations, there's strength/reliability. When aiming at option "2)" the intercooler pipework and standard intercooler aren't really strong enough. Any wear on the joints in the pipework is going to increase the risk of them popping off. And the standard intercooler is a pressed together thing unlikely to survive higher boost (1.8-2.0 bar) for very long.

I would go for the Seat Sport style cooler, not too in your face and Airtec do a kit for the Fabia for around £500.

+1, if you want most out of the turbo then yea fmic a must, also you could benefit from a decent induction kit with cone filter, extra pull off turbo will rip those panal filters out of shape, then have it mapped to get full benefits,, pointless having the hybird unless your going to set around it up get the best of if, else my as well stick with the pd130
