Lights, lights and more lights!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

as I'm sayin in every post, just got a 2009 Octavia Combi 4x4 1.8TSI

I love lights and I'm going to do some mods... parts ordered these days:

-Back lights from DECTANE

-LED for DLR (which also acts as corner lights)

-Osram blue lamps for high beam

-Osram blue lamps for parking lights

I'm not changing the whole front light unit because I have xenon lights for low beam and I'm very happy with it (while the yellow high beam really sucks... hehe)

I'd know if there are some "known mods" that easily works for:

-Luggage compartment light (is very poor!)

-Reading lights (something more white, tough I could keep as they are right now).

I also saw some mods done with strip leds on the bottom of the door but the seller told me that is very dangerous (for airbag reason) to operate on the doors with no knowledge.. please let me know on this as weel!!

Greets,

Sino

Boot lights and interior lights are greatly improved by swapping the bulbs for LEDs. All mine are done, as well as the glovebox light, mirror puddle lights and footwell lighting.

Be aware that the red/white lights in the doors don't look right with LEDs  --  with LEDs they will look pink rather than red!

Thanks Mike,

is there a thread where I can see pics of your car?

I ordered a bunch of these and I will try out.. hope they work without any issue

Hi - I ordered quite a few of these for my last motor (Audi A4). I found after a while the top circular bit fell off because the solder that holds it on had melted !!!  The bulb did stop working though so I knew when it had happened. I bought a different design of bulb based on the smd's and they were fine.

As for the boot lights look at Mylitco on ebay, they do a full housing one which is really bright (a bit pricey though £28~ a pair). But they are top notch and I can actually see what is in the boot at night.

Ok so a little update... after some mods I'm considering doing a begineers' guide for all user here! Hehe

I highly reccomend the OSRAM website, they have a light finder where you put your car model and show all the lights available (with specs, if you need to buy led on ebay!)

Right now:

-Installed some LED DRL.. I was surprised to discover that FOG lights are doing the cornering job and not the DRL!

-I switched the high beam from Osram Nightbreaker to the Osram CoolBlue Intense series.. pretty much the same light but more bluish and matchable to HIDs..

-I also installed Osram CoolBlue Intense for the parking lights but as expected I think they run really low-voltage so the light is still "yellow" instead of blue/white.. I'm not considering led due to bad vent and also the Plights are near the HID so I don't want to damage them in case of failure.... will give a try with VCDS to raise the light a little bit?

-Installed the boot lights from myLitco from above, they are simply great.

-Also fitted the Superskoda led kit for interior dome/reading light (also great!)

Still waiting for the dectanes, also ordered some led strips for puddle lights...

Still looking for an appropriate led bulb for the license plate...!

Okay, another little update...

Installed the Dectane rear leds... they look amazing and also when they're not lit up they make the car more "aggressive" (black smoked on black car..)

Installed the puddle lights... Tried green but was a bit "toxic" and also inappropriate with the crew leds which are white/bluish, so I switched to white right now and they are good.

Also I installed some LEDs for the license plate. They gave me an error on the board so I soldered some 28ohm, 6W resistor on them and now they work fine..

All tested in a 500km trip these days and didn't get any problem.

The only thing left to mod are the mirror lights and the fog light

Interesting about the LEDS falling apart - I was just going to order up some new ones as my existing ones have started to flicker - what type / design did you have that failed so I can avoid them?

The cornering fogs and DRL's are seperate bulbs...

Pictures please!

thanks i can see on those that the only thing holding the top section on is the solder so definitely one to avoid or at least add some heat resistant silicon or glue to

I found out... hehe

At the beginning I tought DRL were acting as cornering when you have main beam on, then I found out that fogs are doing it!

I'm thinking to these for the fogs (now they're the only light that's "yellow" and it looks strange... LOL)

My car isn't listed there BTW, tough it's the same lamp..

For the pictures I'm planning a little session, a friend has to borrow me his reflex so I can tweak a little to get the right exposition to have good pictures of the lights.

AS for the leds, radders... These one are not arrived yet and I'm not going to install.. considering the other leds I received in these days those looks really bad built!
