Private plate?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Just found out that my vrs tdi hatch is at the port and waiting for transport. Three months early I was told to aim for mid to late march back in October so well happy with it coming early.

Dealer says should be ready 2nd week jan all being well!!!!

My question is does anyone know how the private plate swap will happen? I was intending to get it on retention some time in the new year and it's sort of caught my out being early, will I have to take delivery on a 63 plate or is it something the dealer should be able to sort out in time before pick up?

It's no big deal really it would just be nice to have the private plate on at pick up.

Cheers.

The dealer should and can, don't be fobbed off by them saying they cannot do it  THEY CAN.  The car should be ready to pick up with your PP on

They should even stand the cost of doing it.

My car was delivered with my pp on. The whole process of taking it off my old car and then registering the new car on the pp took less than 2 weeks in total. They should easily be able to sort it in that time frame.

I put my plate on retention because of the fluctuating delivery date.

It cost me £105 to do, but it was the easiest option at the time, although it caused me grief with the security implications at work (TRANSEC), which needed special clearance & a double change of insurance!

Easiest method is to place the plate on retention as TheWanderer states it does cost a little more than doing the straight swap, you will receive a retention certificate (proof of ownership) and a replacement V5. In my experience the new V5 takes a little longer than the retention certificate. Once both documents are in your possession, off to the dealers for your PP to be applied to your new car

Hi, the dealer can process it for you. I've got a PP for mine too. Still waiting for a build date, but the dealer has all the paperwork/plates and will have them on the car when I eventually pick it up.

If you have finance let the dealer do all the paper work, less chance of a mistake.

Cheers for the replies.

I've just been in to see my dealer and she says they can sort it all on their end just the £80 transfer fee to pay and left them with my current cars V5 and M.O.T.

Hopefully it will all be back in time for pick up around the 14th which will prob end up being the following Monday when I get chance to get there, I think that last few days of waiting knowing it's there will be harder then the last three months. Still better than the six months wait I was originally told!!!!!

all the dealer needs is the retention certificate, you wont get a v5 till its on a car again,if the plate was on your previous car from new,you will get an age related plate, not necessarily from your own area series of plates,as i found out with mine, you will also get a new tax disc and a certificate of entitlement to get new plates, you do not have to put yours on retention, but it means transfer and the delivery day of your car will be delayed.most dealers will sort this for no charge,,as theyl want your buisness next time
