I kept the old lower grill cover but no where near the right shape,  :wonder: how long it will take them to make one.

Well. if you ask them Kevin they may have one in stock by the time mine arrives.   :giggle:

Perhaps there's a market for used SuperSkoda lower grill covers?  :hi:

Kevin, there's a thread on the Fabia forums about fitting mesh by curling it around the back edge of the opening and fixing with black mastic.

I read it the other day, searched for it now, but for the life of me, can't find it now.

No help, I know, but if I find it I'll let you know.

Same here. She's got that "you want me to do WHAT!" look

Oh, and ive posted a where is it in the fabia forum so see if that turns anything up.

Excellent - fitting mesh to the lower grill would stop stone chipping the air con matix

Well after a few hours of looking thinking fiddling, and a few scratches on the hands and arms I have part one of my project complete.

It may not be to everyones taste but I think it improves the look of the front Grill,  now just have to work out how to get into lower front grill to do that one   :wonder:

Nice work !

Anyone know if the upper grill on the Yeti and Yeti Outdoor are interchangable? The grills seem to have the same outer frame, but the one on the Outdoor has vertical slats as compared to the slightly slanted ones on the non-Outdoor Yeti.

Hi Wakev, read the reviews on Lower grill, You can fit Black gutter mesh which is the correct height and all you have to do is to measure the length

push the rolled up mesh into the lower grill and use small cable ties, more info see the chat for 'DIY lower grill' a lot of guys have done it and works well. takes about

half an hour to fit. and looks great.

You don't want the mesh too small a hole as snow might block the vents and heat up the radiator. there again it might not.

Edited by CHILLEY

I was just thinking the same, the holes in the photo look very small, and could get blocked easily by any debris.

The mesh is front grill mesh. The holes are as big as gutter mesh if not slightly bigger, the camera angle makes them look smaller,  I would rather clear a bit of debris from the grill and not damage the radiator fins trying to get crap out of them or a stone.

It looks fantastic. Please tell me and us how you to hang up the mesh to the grille, because i do not see any cable ties...

For anyone wanting to try the mesh fitting here is how I did it.

Cut template along the top edge of the lower chrome strip, then up the middle of the last two grill slats (ignore the small triangles missing on the top corners the card was not big enough cut straight up),  along the top cut level with the top part of the chrome, leaving two large tabs to fit to the plastic push rivets.

FL_grill_001.JPG
Cut mesh to template,  alone the bottom bend 5mm of the mesh at a right angle to the very ends.

To  fit the mesh remove the black cover from the top of grill, two torx screws and four plastic rivets (pull the center posts up and they will come out can be reused), hold the grill one end and pull and wobble the cover and it will come off, work along till is off.

Before fitting the grill you need to fit the bottom fixings I used 1mm galvanised tying wire. Cut a piece about 150mm and use this to make the holes for the lower fixings 6 arrows along the bottem.FL_grill_013.JPG

If you look inside you will find at the bottom of each slat a flat behind them, I used the wire heated with a lighter to melt holes through the plastic, then fitted a long length of wire through the hole pulling the top part out of the grill.  the outer edges of the mesh are held by a rubber flap each side (already there).

Put the mesh in pushing the bent lower section into a small groove  at the bottom of the slats, this part is a fiddle,  then when its looking right take the wires at the front and put them through the mesh as low as possible behind the slates, then twist tight with small pliers and remove excess.FL_grill_011.JPG
The top is then pushed into the top groove there are three tabs that can be drilled and the mesh wired to them, plus the black cover will hold it if you push the excess under the top lip, the two tabs I cut on the top bend over and lay where the plastic rivets fit the top cover trim them to length just past the holes,

Refit the top cover and push the plastic rivets through the cover and mesh (the holes are the right size for the rivets).

Job done all you need now is a plaster or two on your arms and wash the blood off the grill smiley36.gif

Nice guide, Kevin.

Perhaps it could be reposted in the Technical Guides section?

Will try and copy and paste it there, still working on how to get the lower grill done,

Edit, also in the Technical Guides now
