Bluetooth

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Back as a newbie looking at a post year end purchase on a new VRS.

I had a gen 1 Vrs and wifey a gen 2 so only natural I find myself looking at a gen 3 to replace a ridiculously unreliable Insignia VXR.

Anyway I've sussed all my options but am a bit stuck on the Bluetooth plus thing, all I want is to have the phone sync up with car and be able to make calls with the steering wheel controls etc. Can I do that in the Vrs DSG hatch without this 'plus' module or do I need it?

Advice appreciated.

Cheers,

James.

Not sure what that does but I can make calls just fine and dandy without it. Save your money.

If you want to use voice control then go for the Bluetooth +.

I find it easy to make calls from the steering wheel in my Elegance or the touch screen for favs.

Bluetooth + only does 1 thing. Which is it boosts the phones signal whilst it sits inside the cubby hole.

You get voice control / phone / music streaming without buying the + option

If you want to use voice control then go for the Bluetooth +.

Wrong, bluetooth+ just boots the phone signal, nothing more.  Voice control is standard with the standard bluetooth.

It doesn't add anything to the feature list except better signal.

I really wish I'd gone for the bluetooth+ though. The car seriously seems to blocks phone signal. Although I only notice in areas of really poor coverage (seemingly anywhere outwith Edinburgh City centre but then I did go with ExcrimentEverywhere)

Voice control on my Fabia was bad, the Octavia is a step down and I would have to say the word starts with a c and ends in a p or s and t same thing.

Thanks, I think I'll delete that then as I'm not in need of a stronger signal that much and will enjoy the peace and quiet if it's really poor!

While I have an audience it seems prudent to run through what I'm looking at and get the educated views, so:-

Petrol DSG hatch

Race Blue

Anthracite alloys

Red seat stitching

Sunset Glass

Winter pack (heated seats, screen and washer jets)

Black design pack

Amundsen nav

Canton sound system - does it sound good?

Parking assistant - gimmicky I know but good for the Mrs and the kids will love it like they did on my v6 superb

AMI but the iPod version

Cruise Control

Color MMi computer thing

Front mudflaps

Thoughts, missed anything critical?

Got to test drive an estate yet and were a little out on the figures but with end of year looming I reckon we'll get there. Only downside is a 20 week lead time.

Cheers,

James.

Options are looking good, except for the winter pack. When I ordered the winter pack was only available for TDIs not for petrol.

I did to have the AMI to give me greater flexibility along the way, the AMI removes USB and aux in being replaced with the AMI port.

Keep in mind that rear mudflaps arent standard on a vRS despite what the brochure may say. And the standard Octy III mudflaps DO fit, despite what your dealer will tell you.

The Canton is very good.

Prices go up on 1st Jan and the 0% PCP and free servicing is removed from the vRS, so you need to do a deal quick!!!

No sunroof....??  :giggle:

Spare wheel

  • Author

Thanks both.

Winter pack hasn't flagged with dealer so I assume it's made it to the petrol now.

Yep, I'm ready to sign and do the deal before year end but need more than the £225 discount being offered, I'm not expecting them to match the Broadsheet price but meeting halfway would be good, in reality even a bit less will get me where I want to be monthly. I have had 3 Skoda off this guy so he knows I'm serious.

Sunroof, err nope, you need sun for that :-)

Spare wheel, last few cars have had tire gunk/compression kits so whilst it's a possible I'm inclined not to bother at this stage.

Cheers,

James.

Nice spec almost same as me !

Shame you can't get more of a discount though on that.

Which dealer are you using - Simpsons?

Alex Lawrie in Liverpool usually give a really good price, you can get an online quote from them via http://www.carwow.co.uk

Oddly, for a dealer, they don't open on Sundays.

Get a spare tyre, used mine twice already since July!

Well were getting nearer to the Broadspeed price which was around £24700 if memory serves.

I'm ready to sign for the right price but I'm looking to be opportunistic really, if another sale on their 2013 sales is valuable enough it is likely they'll get to where I need to be and if it isn't then I'll likely buy via the web, they reckon the offers will be honored if I commit before month end, its just hassle dealing remotely and the car being supplied from the most remote dealer. I ve been burnt before and prefer to buy local even at a slight premium but its not a blank cheque.

Thanks, ill try the Liverpool mob and for 75 quid will probably chuck the spare wheel in as it'll make no real difference.

Cheers,

James.

That's a weird Skoda thing, there seems to be more closed on Sunday than open, never known any other manufacturer do it.....

Well I've done the carwow thing also as a backup but I should know today if Simpsons can meet me in the middle and strike a deal. I reckon I'm looking for around a 4 percent discount to be where I want to be, from what I read that's perfectly achievable but not all dealers will play ball so will have to wait and see.

I have been straight with my "get to here and I will come and drive your demo tomorrow (now today) and if all is well leave a deposit", I got get much fairer than that.

Well whether they work or not on Sundays Alex Laurier sales manager responded to my carwow request just now, the spec I want Incl the spare wheel for £25906. I've asked them to run the finance numbers but by my reckoning that scrapes into where I want to be so that looks good.

So just ask Simpson's to match it - they do open on a Sundau

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

Yep, have given them the monthly payment they need to hit with the offer of me going over today to complete if they can.

Wait and see time, just had another offer of 26k so there are deals to be had it seems.

And so the waiting begins :-)

Just got back from Alex Lawrie in Liverpool (huge thanks for that recommendation) after ordering a new, what will be, 14 plate VRS.

Final spec in the end was:-

Petrol DSG Hatchback

Race Blue

Anthracite Alloys

Red stitching

Colour maxi dot

Cruise

Black pack

Heated front seats

Amundsen Nava

Spare wheel

Heated washers

Park assist

Sunset glass

IPod connection

Canton sound system

Heated front screen

Front mud flaps

Supaguard

They had one in the colour combo with the wheels in the showroom and I was well impressed.

Grand total for this lot, with 0% PCP and 3 years free servicing is £25786 OTR, as it happens the best 'cash' price I was offered by another dealer was £24977! My local dealer (Simpsons) struggled to believe the price let alone come close.

So, there you go, back in the fold :-)

Cheers for everyone input!

James.

I'm surprised they didn't bump the heated screen.

Some dealers call seats and washers the winter pack on the petrol so I'd double check.
