Hello everyone.

I'm getting my Octavia hopefully this Tuesday (Hooray).

First of all I'm going to get a Diagnostic check done at SKODA. I'm buying it from one of those car supermarkets ('The Car People') and its had that Engine Light on situation - Which they have totally guaranteed they will sort out.

After that I'm want to upgrade the brakes and tyres.

Simple Upgrade for brakes...relatively cheap...uprated pads? Any suggestions please?

Tyres? I've used Goodyear Eagle F1's and always been pleased with them on my Legacy Turbo they were

I'm very happy with the Goodyear F1 GSD-3's on my 4x4 and really can't see me changing for anything else at the moment.

Good to hear you finally got a 4x4 I remember when you first PM'd me saying you wanted one after looking at the pics of mine!

I'm running brembos but for a pad upgrade you won't go far wrong with Ferrodo DS2500's.

Black: Diamond break disks and pads 275 euro for the Octavia RS.

Thanks guys...can anyone fit the pads or should it go to SKODA? What manufacturer are SP9000. What about these fancy Pirellis are they better than Goodyear Eagle F1's or not?

Rossos..IMHO give the same amount of grip/performance as F1s but are in my experience a little quieter.

Probably something to do with being asymmetric as opposed to directional in design.

Rossos also need some real heat in them to begin with...or they'll feel like nothing special...but once "cured" they're a good un.

A little more expensiv ethan F1s though.

Thinking about trying some Bridgestone S03 Polepositions next...a little cheqper than the F1s...apparently better in the dry although second to F1 in wet.

Check out the review section...quite a few reviews on tyres in there.

Haven't tried Neros but these have a stiffer side wall....more expensive as well....Jon has done a review.

Dosent sound from your thread that you will be going for Bigger Discs, If you are decide that first as it might have a bearing on what sized wheels you have.

With std Discs I would say DS2500 Pads & upgrade the fluid to dot 5.1, a lot of people also recomend Black Diamond discs but I havent tried them, I went straight to 335x32 Discs (these needed 17" wheels). My rears are still standard & the pads lasted 45000 miles even with my hard driving style. so I guess these can be left

For Tyres I always run Toyo Proxies, reosnably priced & a good level of grip but they dont seem to last too long or maybe thats down to me

I've fitted Black Diamond Grooved discs and Predator pads all round and there's plenty of brake there for all situations.

Certainly sorted out the wet weather 'delayed braking effect' of the Std discs :eek:

Leave the tyres until they need changing...I think my RS had SP3000 or something and they were crap....but left em until they needed changing.

As for fluid I would change to 4.1+....Castrol Response....this will be more than enough for everyday driving and the odd track day. The higher the fluid rating the higher the boiling point, which means with heavy use you should get better pedal response because of the increased resistance to heat.

SKODA should be able to uprat the fluid...4.1+ is compatible so there won't be any contamination of their kit. You'll aslo be able to get it from Halfrauds for

Alternatively for the pads, send an e-mail to [email protected] and tell him you want some of the "Rog-Proof" DS2500's (but of a running joke between me and Bill!). Worth asking him for the price at least for comparison sakes...

On my Leon I run DS2500 pads front and rear, with Brembo 4-pot calipers and 323mm disks on the front. If you want to spend some money on your brakes, then I would say the Brembo's are the way to go!

Fortunately for me, they're standard fit on the car!!

By the way my rear washer jets for the wiper don't seem to be working I get the pump noise but no water...the front ones work but the smell from the water is awful. What about the headlight washers how the heck do I get them working?

Headlamp washers are on a delay, they come on 2-3 seconds after the screen washers so try holding the washers on for a while to see what happens.

If they dont work & as with the rear its back to the garage you bought it from !!

Running DS2500 on my fabia. Only once had brake fade (the other week in North Wales ) But I reckon thats down to the fluid boiling as its not been change for 20K
