Headlamps UV damaged.

Featured Replies

Because I'm very old I have never come across such a thing as UV damage so could anyone tell me firstly if its possible to fix it and secondly if its not what it will cost me for two Fabia headlamps.

If it's just gone cloudy and yellowing on the surface you can compound them and remove it.

Very repairable, and can be done to varying degrees of success and expense depending on how much you want to spend and how hard you want to work! Depending how bad they are, you may want to go down through the varying grades of wet and dry sandpaper then polish up. Alternatively there are kits available online for about the twenty quid mark. Or you can try the home remedies of either toothpaste or brasso. I personally have used brasso with good effect, the wife's mkv golf headlights were really bad when we bought it. This was perhaps 18 months ago and they've started to cloud over again though, so if you can afford it and don't want to repeat the process, invest in a good sealer coat when you're done

not used one but 3M do a kit so it should be good  just need a drill and soft pad

Many thanks for the advice which I've started to work on. Do all cars have these type of headlamps?

Some older cars have proper glass lamps.  But a lot of the modern lamps are plastic and the UV coating on them vary in quality.  So there are some cars which suffer worse.  I have done a set of fabia lights using wet & dry sandpaper, compound and polish (both by machine).  It came up nice considering they were MOT failure before.

I used that one very good and real easy to use, their are guides on youtube.

Oh yeah you'll need to protect them after you polish them.

I used this stuff so far so good you can even use it on your glass. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Glass-Sealant-Inhibitor-Coating-50ml/dp/B00A3S1RGU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390003232&sr=8-1&keywords=headlamp+uv+protection
