Yeti for Day Hire

Featured Replies

Interesting that Skoda UK don't seem to want Daily Rental business for Yeti. They do sell limited numbers of Fabia and Octavia but tightly control numbers and specifications.

Having been in Daily Rental management for nearly 40 years, I am aware that manufacturers use us to get 'bums on seats' when launching new cars. They also use Daily Rental to soak up over production/slow sales so as not to have cars parked unsold.

Because Yeti has been such a resounding success Skoda UK have not needed to sell discounted cars into Rental, which is why you can't readily rent one.

Why not ask your local dealer for an extended road test or ask on this forum for a kind Yeti owner to assist. I assume you are considering buying one but want a longer than 10 minute drive?

Hi

Thanks for your reply. At least I now know that I'm unlikely to find one on day hire and it's not that I'm not looking in the right place!

Yep, I'm looking for a longer test period mainly to check whether my octogenarian Mum can get in/out. I don't want to make a fuss by turning up with a car in a hurry and asking her to try it out, I just wanted to turn up one day when we're going somewhere and see how she gets on.

Thanks again - Andy.

Andy, you're a customer spending £15-20K ! Any decent dealership won't mind for a minute if you want a 'trial' octogenarian entry and exit. They have to take a lot more time over some showroom visitors who are only looking.

My 93 year old dad, who has some mobility problems, usually rides in the back of mine. He uses the (well positioned) grab handle to heave himself into the back seat. Because Yeti is a bit higher off the ground than, say a Focus,it is a little more tricky to get IN but easier to get OUT . Good and roomy in the back as well as a loftier seating position giving better views out.

As a matter of interest, what do you currently drive and what alternatives to Yeti are you considering?

Hi Andy, My 80+ in-laws love my Yeti and find it much easier to get in and out of than the Volvo V50 I had before. The only thing that isn't as easy is that they find clicking in the seat belt tongue a little awkward (as does my wife when she travels in the rear seats)i. Not a reason not to have a Yeti but just something you might want to bear in mind when your Mum tries out the car.

I went to at least three dealers before I bought mine and had test drives at each. All were happy with longer test drives (one in fact let me have a manual and a DSG back-to-back and sent me out on my own - very trusting!) and on top of that let me try my dog in the back to make sure there was enough room; I did take a blanket to protect the cargo area from hair.

If you can arrange to go for a test drive on a day and at a time when they aren't going to be too busy I'm sure any dealer will give you all the time you need. As Awfabia says, you're a customer with a decent budget to spend and the chances are the longer you are out on a test drive the more you will appreciate the Yeti's virtues.

Andy, where are you in NE Wales?

I'm not that far south and don't mind having a wander if needs be.

See,Andy, told you BRISKODA people are fab!

Back in September I tried to hire a Yeti, not a chance in hell.

I looked on the net at hire companies that came up under Yeti hire and, everyone said 'don't have them'

Tried a couple of Skoda dealers, offering to pay for a few days of their choice as I wanted to try before I spent £25K, again no chance.

Their attitude was 'they can sell all they get' so not interested in trying to help.

In November I took the bull by the horns and put a deposit on a showroom model, ended up with a 10 minute drive.

So, should get it (Yeti) in Feb this year.

Get yourself to Mitchells near Cheshire Oaks, they will loan you a Yeti for as long as you need it, my test drive was from 10AM until 4PM, plenty long enough to run out around north wales and use the Yeti on Motorways, "A" roads and "B" roads.

Hey, thingy! My Freelander owning friend is seriously considering a Yeti after a weekend to Yorkshire in mine. He said was comparable in most ways and more roomy, especially in the boot.

Had a student on a course just over a year ago and he had some temporary work for one of the big rental outfits and he did say he'd moved the odd Yeti from one place to another. Sadly I cannot remember the name of the firm or be able to contact him as he's moved away from the area.

I agree about Mitchell's. I popped in for a free car wash in my wife's Fabia and asked for a test drive in a Yeti Adventure 4x4. They guy didn't even ask my name, gave me the keys to one with 6 miles on the clock, put some trade plates on and said there is plenty of fuel, go for a run. So I did :)

Speak to David Alexander if he is there, very helpful and they have about 20 Yeti's on the forecourt.

Hi all

Thank you all very much for your contributions and to Llanigraham for his kind offer of help which won't be necessary but is very much appreciated. Thank you all - well done Briskoda.

I have already visited a couple of dealers and I'm impressed that both of them have offered to let me take a new demonstrator on my own for a few hours even after I pointed out that I'd likely be looking a used rather than new. They both said it didn't matter. Excellent!

As I mentioned earlier, I had preferred the idea of a relaxed trial using a hire car rather than a shorter term test drive from an agent due mostly to my preferring not let my Mum think that her needs might be influencing my buying decision. I'd just hoped to have a different car for a couple of days carrying on as normal to see how she got on. It's not that important but it would have been preferable, I'll just take a normal dealer test drive if necessary.

I'm a bit tied up with other things at the moment and might also have a couple of other types of car to look at (Golf Plus/Altea or possibly compact estate). I'll keep you posted on my Yeti progress and will probably have a few more questions during the decision process. You'll no doubt you'll see me rattling around the forum if I get one.

Thanks very much again to all - Andy :) :)

I've had both an Altea and currently got a Golf Plus, can recommend them both and very similar cars.

I ran a Golf Plus for120000 miles, never missed a beat. A great car, loads of really useful room inside a relatively small package. Only really changed to a Yeti for the towing ability of the 4x4 version - although I am pleased I did.
