2260vk or upgrade?

Featured Replies

So I have a fabia with a hybrid running 196bhp but I know full well that soon I'll get bored of it and want it quicker, my question is, isit worth spending the money on a 2260 and everything else that goes with it or just change car? Would probably be looking at a 320d if I was to upgrade :) I love the fabia but not sure if it warrants spending all that money

If you get the 320d at least you'll have a car that actually handles to start with!

Don't kid yourself that they're any more reliable though and you still won't get 250bhp out of it easily, better to be safe and get the 330d I say.

Agree with sepul, tbh I wouldn't move to a BMW unless it's a 330d or above. Ateod it's in a different league but you pay more to run and insure it that's for sure.

A 330d will remap to 280 bhp and a 335d to 340 bhp being realistic.

I have spent a fair amount of my fabia to get it to where it is, but now I just think isit worth it, thanks for your advice anyway :)

Those 330's are like fecking lightning!

A colleague has a remapped one and it's BRUTALLY fast.

You should go in a 335d remapped, the new 335d are quicker still 4wd 0-60 in an impressive 4.7 sec obviously 30-100 will be quick too.

Down point is they are 40 odd k, good second hand 06/07 330ds are in the 10-11k region.

I want a small quick, fun , cheap, good Mpg daily beater car and having bought bits second hand and doing work myself/improvising I can get my fabia to 230 bhp etc for around 1700/1800.

I already have a turbo banzai nutter car that would spank a remapped 335d, so it's different for me.

I think mate Ateod buy the best car you without living outside your means eg getting into big debt.

However with a 2260vk, Lsd and injectors (your half way there) I've seen ibizas running 270bhp spank new focus rs's and subaru sti's if that's your game.

I do think the higher power you go the more you eat into reliability, comfort etc.

I would love that tbh but on the other hand I want reliability not sure how reliable a pd with 2260, LSD and injectors would be

Everyone seems with smaller diesel motors to idolise the 330d as their next car.

The e46 bmw is now in the budget for cheaper motoring which means you get a whole load of scrappers around getting badly modified.

Personally i went for the newer e90 in 320d guise. It ticks all the boxes plus gets miles better mpg than the 3l 6cyl diesel. Its certainly not a slug and does everything you'd ever need it to do :) plus you will get a way better car for your money than a clapped out 330d high miler

A 320d is a fine model too, i think why the 330d is popular is because the 330d gives resonable MPG with good performance whilst the 335d gives belting performance but poor mpg.

It also depends on fun etc to, i have a more fun in my honda than i do in my fabia.

All comes down to money at the end of the day and insurance, I get where you're coming from tho and will have a look at the e46 and the e90 thanks :)

My old boy has a 335d his combined is 31mpg

My brother has just got a 325d same 3l 6cyl but detuned from the 330d his combined is 35mpg

My 320d is getting 41mpg combined

On a run

335d 40mpg

325d 45mpg

320d 50mpg

I have the older 320d unit which is the m47 engine. Apparently the newer n47 320d unit is good for high 50's / low 60's

I'm a grownup, insurance seems to cost £200-250 no matter what I drive these days, so I don't even think about it. Motorbike is about £100 a year.

I know this is going to sound weird but I really couldn't care less about cars these days, it seemed to matter when I was in my 20's and 30's but not any more.

Fair enough, but them demographic on here owning vrs is wildly different.

Yes you get to a point where you want reasonable insurance / tax / running costs / maintenance

Thats why i went for the 320d, pull the badge off and nobody knows. Well the 6cyl have all chrome grilles on the front but mine are gloss black performance ones so nobody would know

Can't knock you for that jase.

I'll always have reasonably fast cars, but my days of tinkering/modifying I won't be for much longer been there done that.

I might be having a late midlife crisis but I'm seriously considering building a Westfield and getting rid of the bike altogether, I'll keep the Fab of course.

Best way i found, something mental/quick that satisfies your needs and something you can just get in and drive and it not give you much hassle or be a pain to drive.

You get frustrated after a while

A modded motor is fun when its all tickety boo. But how often does it last?

Start straining other parts

Driveshafts

Cv's

Gearboxes

Clutches / flywheels

Turbo's

Intercooler hoses start popping off

Bushes

Brakes

Tyres

Just starts to do your head in. My leon shat its driveshaft and that was the final straw. Traded it in for a stock 320d :)

Maybe i have since tinckered but only visually
