Dashcam Installation

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Has anybody installed a dashcam in their Rapid?

I picked up one of these recently - http://dashboardcamerareviews.com/dod-ls300w/

There are plenty of crazy drivers around here (mostly Octavias, Fabias and Rapids  :giggle: ), so I thought it would come in handy in case the worst happens. The video quality is great for the price and I am going to have a crack at routing the cable this weekend to the fusebox.

I was just wondering if anybody had installed one already?

Thanks!

Not in a rapid but it should be as easy as the yeti.

The front of the headlining is probably not fixed at its edge so you can tuck the cable along the edge.

From the screen/a pillar corner, run it down the back edge of the pillar cover. It should lay just inside the back edge.

Avoid airbag exit points.

If the fuse box is the same as the yeti, AFAIK all the fuse boxes are the same, you can coil spare cable in there.

I wired mine into the rear wiper fuse using a piggyback fuse holder.

See fubar's how to for the octy II here...

I followed it for the yeti and that was exactly the same.

Just came across this thread too. Might be worth a look also.

Yes, I have fitted one in a Rapid.

It's very easy once you have an idea what you are doing.

Cable along under the headlining, down the inside of the rubber trim between the door opening and A post and straight into the fuse box.

Here is a clip of what I caught. :)

This is the live to the fusebox and which fuse I used for an ignition live.

Nice. There is a lovely gap in the headlining to run the cable.

I only had a quick look this afternoon, but I cannot see how you got the cable from the headlining into the A pillar. It seems way too tight for anything to fit, unless I am just being overly cautious.

Also do you have a link for where you bought your cable and fuse piggyback?

I was quite surprised to see that the 12v adapter delivers  power without the key in the ignition whilst I was playing around with the cam.

Cheers.

You run the cable to the top corner of the windscreen under the headlining, then round between the headling and A post trim (push it between them so you can't see it)

And then go down the A post behind the door rubber.

Like I did on this LEAF. (note LEAF fusebox is on the other side)

Then run round the top of the A post trim, it just pushes in with the lining bouncing back afterwards.

I got the piggy back fuse on ebay.
