Insurance Woes - Pricing, Renewal & Outstanding Claim

Featured Replies

Morning All.

Right, basically I have a difficult situation regarding my Insurance.

Just before Christmas, I had an accident in my vRS, which led to it being written off ( Thread here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/298970-my-vrs-accident-potential-write-off-advice-needed/ ). That claim is currently ongoing and i've been told that the liability 'should' fall with the person who hit me from behind.

My insurance renewal is due on the 2nd February and it's likely that my claim won't have been settled by this point, so I'm unsure what to state in my renewal quotes. As the claim hasn't been settled and I did have 2yrs NCB before the accident, what should i be putting on my renewal forms:

- 3yrs NCB?

- 0yrs NCB?

The difficult part is that the above makes a dramatic difference to my quoted prices. I'm looking to buy another vRS, but a facelift version. A quote through quidco with 3years NCB and other party at fault, would only cost me ~£500, but with 0NCB and an unsettled claim, it's looking like £1000. That's obviously a 100% increase, which quick frankly, is a complete joke!

What I need advice with is:

- What should i be stating in my insurance quotes?

- Do i have any other options that I should consider?

- If it were you, would you buy another cheap run out for a bit and then buy the vRS when the claims been settled? (difficulty with this is that the insurer could quote well for a run around, but when I go to update the vehicle details as a vRS, they could easily sting me for a high premium)

As you can imagine, it's quite a stressful thing to not have a car! I've also got a new job starting this month (car is only option to get about) and next month I'll be a home owner, so obviously I have these things to consider.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You really need to speak to the company you're getting the quote from so that you can explain the situation. If we can help, please give us a call.

Hi Wardy,

I'm in a similar situation (sort of) on going claim thanks to some plonker who thought the white lines in the road where an invite into my drivers door.

I spoke to I think Martin(?) at Chris Knott, he was really helpful, went through everything with me and managed to get me a brilliant quotation, that was over £350 cheaper than other insurers and this is a better policy. Haven't taken it out yet as have some things to sort out first, but all the information he was able to offer me was great and certainly cleared up the confusion I had.

Yeh it's difficult really to know who to call, as normally I'd use the comparison websites to get an idea of who's cheapest. I will be giving the insurance sponsors a ring around on here about it and see what they can do for me. Can you recommend someone to speak to from your company?

In your experience, how would this process normally work for your company, for example? Would I have to state 0NCB until proof is obtained and then claim a refund back?

Ah right that does sound promising, thanks for your info and seems like this lot look after their customers! Obviously I need to wait until i actually source a new car, but I guess I can quote using a similar car/age vRS that I'm after?

If it's just an indication quote at this stage, yes, we can quote on a similar vehicle. Be helpful to have a reg no though.

I have one earmarked that I'm potentially purchasing. Am I able to speak to you personally about it, to save repeating myself or will it be someone else that I speak to? Do I need to quote any references as I'm coming through this forum?

I don't do the quotes unfortunately but I'll PM you the number of the Motor manager and I'll email him the details you've put on here so he's up to speed when you call.

If your car is written off, then surely you don't need to renew, until you get a new car?

At that point, you should be able to push your insurance for an admission of liability from the other side, before you get your money to buy the new car.

You'd then know if it's 1 ir 3 years NCB

Yeh my premium runs out next month, so i just change that with my new car's details until that runs out. Once it runs out, i have to change my details to 0NCB, non-fault and claim back my NCB.

Just like to say also that ChrisKnott above have been fantastic, I would highly recommend them and speak to Paul, he's very understanding! They've told me they will match the best price comparison that I can find with 0NCB & non-fault and will refund me once I get my NCB back, which for me is about 50% of the whole premium!
