Rear wheel spacers.

Featured Replies

Can' help thinking that the vRS would benefit from spacers on the rear.

Nothing too daft, maybe 10mm will suffice.

What d'ya think? Yay or nay.

Errrr... tried to post this as poll, but things went a bit topsy turvy.

Anyway, your thoughts please!

on the same note yet ever so slightly different i am probably going to be fitting 5mm spacers to the front of my car so that another mod will fit, should i fit spacers to the rear to match?

sorry, you can have your thread back now :o

YES! The backs are way too far inside the car. Watch your bearings blashiitblahshhitblah.

This has already been covered before...

Spacers, as I've been told by a mechanic, won't really do anything to your bearings, especially to the rear non-powered wheels. I've fitted 12mm per side for my car, and it's improved the handling by quite a lot. Plus it looks more bulldoggish.

I think on the rear you would stuggle with hubcentric spacers less than 12mm as they need to be deep enough to go over the centre bore of the disc and sit flush.

Remember to increase bolt length by the same as the spacer, dont go more as you may damage hub components or run the risk of bolts coming loose, especially on the n/s.

I had 20mm spacers on the rear of my Mk3 Ibiza, but that really needed spacers. Back end stability was vastly improved.

I suppose an extra 2mm won't harm anything! :D

I know about the longer bolts as well - whatever the width of spacer you increase by, you do exactly the same to the length of the bolt. Just means I'll have to buy longer locking wheel bolts or do without.

Seems like a popular idea at the moment. If we got an ideal size and make of spacer agreed does anyone think a group buy might be possible?

Also, where do you get longer bolts from and is it just a case of taking off the wheel, putting the spacer on and putting the wheel back on over it?

Cheers

Andy

Some wheel spacer kits have the bolts already included, but you can get them from any alloy wheel supplier. However, there are two types of bolt, or rather bolt seating. Radiused or tapered. OEM alloys tend to be radiused, so the bolts would need to be the same.

And, yes, it' as simple as that!

Cheers for that,

let us know if you find the best place/price to get them!

pretend I never mentioned groupbuy as it would be too much hassle etc etc

:D

This is a good mod IMO. Good results. :)

15mm fitted and got them along with the correct longer bolts from Badger5.

Any piccys?

Considering this mod myself, but would like to know what it looks like.

Me too.

Mil did this to his car, but...

The result may differ depending on the wheel offset you currently have. With stock wheels it might offer improvement though. I'm not sure if the track is actually shorter at back but just looks like it because the wheel arches are wider at back..

but what??

First pic before, second after. Handling is much better than it was as well.

He's back!

Did you ever shoot that 3/4 profile picture of your car so we could see what spacers do to the rear wheels...

Not sure.. cant remember how it looked before. Yes i suppose you can tell they stick out a bit more but it doesnt look funny in the flesh.. trust me ;)

Have another pic showing rear but mudflaps get in the way..

Edited: a couple more piccies added. One shows tyre just peeping out to the right of the mud flap - you can just about see it. The other shows the spacer fitted between the hub and wheel (note that it is flush with the hub)

Trackstore (www.trackstore.co.uk) do very cheap spacers and wheel bolts - but you'd need to know the specific pitch and length of the bolts in order to get them there, as they are sold on a universal fit basis rather than application specific. But looking at their prices if someone can identify the specific size of wheelnut needed, people should be able to do this mod for about

Incidentally, if trackstore can supply them for

Would be very interested in a group buy or guidance in buying them!

Jamlip, I'll try and get some pics done tomorrow of the profile your asking for. I'm loaded with two of my colleagues' work because they went on holiday, so it will be difficult to get some pics out. I'll look for another pic with them before they were fitted too, so you can tell.

Fabia TDi, those spacers really brought those rear wheels out :) Looks good, very noticeable difference. vRS wheels are 6.5J right? Mine are only 6J :(
