Rear wheel spacers.

Featured Replies

I'm assuming a kit that would fit the Audi TT would fit the Fabia, right?

Need for speed do a kit with 2x 20mm spacers and 10x longer bolts, to fit the TT, for

They also do a kit with 2x 15mm spacers for TT and mk4 Golf for

The reason it looks funny is because with spacers you're just moving the wheel outer from the center..

You'd get about the same track-widening effect with a wider 7" wheel with ET35 but the inner edge of the wheel would be still be about the same as stock wheels (6.5" ET43) while outer edge would still reach out further (about same as with 15mm spacers) providing better support when cornering - plus no need for separate parts between wheel/hub.. anyway it's cheaper to buy spacers than new wheels, so I'd say if it works then it's a good budget solution.

You can check for yourself with the following calculator for example:

I would be interested in a group buy but i can't help decide which ones to get because i have no idea what spec they need to be :o

If they are 20mm each isn't that too much? I thought they should be 12mm or 15mm max per side

18mm spacers:

Personally, I wouldn't go any bigger than 15mm.

I had 20mm spacers on my Mk3 Ibiza, but that really needed them. It had a Polo rear beam, but a Mk3 Golf front subframe, which made the track wider at the front.

OK then, I've found some and ordered them -

Excellent, seems like a good price

Look forward to your verdict

OK, got them, fitted them, need a little advice...

On receiving them I noticed they came with 20 bolts for 2 spacers... had me confused at first til I realised they have different angles on the bolt heads, some taper at about 45 degrees, some at about 70 degrees. The 70 degree ones looked closest to the angle of the standard bolts so I went with them.

Jacked the car up, took the wheel off, cleaned up the hub and did a test fit with the spacer. Was surprised to see that the spacer sat about 2 or 3 mm proud of the hub, but lined up fine with the bolt holes. Tried the bolts and with a bit of tightening they seemed to sit flush against the hub so I tried the wheels and they tightened up OK.

Test drive - first impressions - braking stability is improved, as is cornering. BUT there is a noise coming from the rear wheels, like one of the bolts might be too long and is rubbing. It's a repeating noise which varies with speed, and disappears if the handbrake is lightly applied. Any suggestions? In truth it may have been there already as I normally don't go anywhere without the Alpine turned up and it's a very quiet noise, but I deliberately didn't have the stereo on when I took it out just now to see if there were any funny noises.

So, any suggestions? Given up for the evening now I think as it's getting a bit dark and I don't need to use my car in the daytime tomorrow, might see if the more steeply tapered bolts are fractionally shorter although I'm pretty sure they were the same length. I do have a bunch of before and after pics for comparison but my camera is also playing up this evening, will have to try to sort that out tomorrow too......

Same as the ones I sourced locally except mine are the alloy version.

Yeah, these are steel, gold-anodised like the finish you get on EBC turbo groove brake discs.

Did you find the same thing fitting the alloy ones, I.E. the didn't fit flush to the hub until they were tightened up?

yep same mate just used a torque driver toensure all nuts done the same. Incidently you may find the 15mm spacer on a VRS with 195tyres a touch too wide. Check out my other post that showsapprox max spacer widths for a given size wheel/tyre combo.

Changed the wheel nuts for the other ones that came in the set, plus washed the rear brakes, and the sound seems to have gone. So either I used the wrong nuts, or I got crap in the brakes when I was cleaning the hubs up with a wire brush. As for the tyres, these are 205/45/16 as standard on the vRS so they are probably much too wide based on your workings!!!

OK, pictures as promised!

First, here's what came in the kit:

Here's how the standard wheels look:

Hub face corroded so cleaned it up with a wire brush then offered up the spacer as below:

And finally, with the wheel fitted. They fill out the arches much more now, but as you can see from the top down view, they are still within the wheel arch and will therefore not be deemed to be sticking out too far come MOT time

did you buy the bolts from the same company?

It all came in the same kit, 2 spacers and 20 bolts for

OK, not sorted yet, on the way to work this morning, got onto my own private test strip, obviously not a public road, wound it up to about a ton and started to get a terrible juddering off the back end of the car. I think the lip on the spacer is not milled deep enough for the collar on the hub. Will be taking them off tomorrow afternoon to measure...

Yep have now had the same problem! Wifeeee phoned me on her way home last night to say car making some very odd noises. Went out to meet and investigate. All nuts done up tight to the same torque. Followed her and notice one whell was wobbling all over the shop! Thought at first she had buckled a wheel, but it turns out that one of the spacers was not sitting flush on the hub due to the the same reason as JUT. Ill let you know what happens when I take them back......

On mine, the hub collar is 15mm deep and the recess that has been milled out of the spacer is about 13.5mm, I think that's what's causing the problem. I had arranged for the place I bought them from to send someone to pick them up and check them out, but that was supposed to be Wednesday morning and no-one has shown up yet, not too impressed. Will get back onto them today. Seriously thinking about saving myself the trouble and just getting the Octy vRS rims instead! :D

Dropped them into Croydon Race and Rally where I got them from and he agrees about the collar, hes getting a local firm to re-mill them for FREE and hopefully might get them back for tomorrow.
