Global DSG recall extende to UK

Featured Replies

Had car serviced on Saturday - 10,000 mile service - no mention made of any need to change oil for the DSG.

I thought DSG-7 boxes were dry boxes & it's DSG-6 as fitted to vRS's that are the wet ones.

Clutches are dry in 7 speed,in 6 speed they are immersed in oil,But the actual gears and bearings still need oil in the dry clutch 7 speed

Or else it would seize up.

This was all over the news in China earlier last year...  Problem is overheating when stationary too long... which happens a lot in China due to too many people, too small a road system and too bad a driving style.

Press was all over it saying how bad and poor quality foreign firms were and how good Chinese firms were..... ok Mr government approved and edited press person.... you couldn't be more wrong, especially as on the next couple of newspaper pages it was full of various Chinese company safety failings!

Previous thread on this & was to do with stop/start fault caused by overheating. That was because mineral oil was used in the DSG system. Skoda are changing the oil to non mineral oil in some new Octy's. When I phoned them they acknowledged the problem in some cars & said that the owners will be sent a letter requesting they take car to a dealer & oil will be changed. The car can be taken to any dealer provided an appointment was made.

Skoda UK did also say that the problem had been worst in hot climates & coupled with the oil type was causing over heating problems with the stop/start electronics. They didn't expect it to be a problem in the UK but had decided to do a recall. They couldn't confirm which build week cars were affected & you would only find out when the letter arrived. Not yet had a letter myself.

So which engine(s) does this recall apply to?

And I take it this is done FOC at SUK's expense.

It is the 7 speed DSG & as far as I am aware diesel engines have the 6 speed box - I am sure I will be corrected if diesel owners know differently.

It will be done FOC.

Spoke to dealer today and they say no recall.

So it is looking like VW are changing DSG oil if asked but SUK are not.

I think only the petrol engines got a 7 speed, my diesel is a 6.

Petrol vRS DSG is 7 speed? Must have missed that in the brochure, oh well learn something every day eh!

So must I, unless my gear indicator is broken. As mine only goes up to 6.  :(

That's not what Skoda UK told me. They will tell owners if they need the oil change. They didn't know if mine was affected, but did say if I get a letter contact dealer to arrange it & all owners need to do is produce the letter to the dealer for a FOC oil change. They described it as a precautionary move for affected owners & not a recall.

How long do these oil changes take should the need arise?

Just being a shift & critical worker, time is of the essence.

Then I shall immediately forget aboutbthis, lol.

1.6 diesels get the 7 speed DSG

That's both comforting and not, I suspect because my car was built October 2013 that it already has the correct oil or does it and should I be getting a letter - oh paranoia.

Our Touran 1.6TDI has the 7 speed box.  I think you got it the wrong way round.
