Fabia 05 VRS Slower than 04?

Featured Replies

I had my test drive in a 04 VRS and apart from the fact I love the car the icing on the cake was it kicked like a wreaking ball up the backside, almost to the fact that it felt uncomfortable.

Got my nearly new 05 with 4k on clock and there seems just no kick, is it me am I just not driving it right or could there be a problem?

Do you remember how much mileage the demo car had......normally they get better with miles.

I wonder also if the Furby has an adaptive ECU....drive an Octy like a granny and that's how it will drive....drive it in a spirited manner and it will respond as such.

It had just over 10k

likely take some time (maybe 10k ??) for the engine to properly loosen up, but if the 04 was 'almost uncomfortable' then maybe it was breathed on ?

As per SkodiRS' post....

Almost all new cars I believe have adaptive ECU's, but are most adaptive immediately after an ECU reset.

So it could be a liklely possibility that the previous owner drove the 4000 miles sedately, and now, even if you try to drive it very hard the adaptation will be minimal.

Worth a try to reset the ECU and welly it for a while ;)

Breathed on? was just a standard so said the sales rep I think thats what you mean? there just seems to be no kick in mine nothing like the o4.

How is that done is that a factory job? please dont say it would cost me :(

Hi mate

I dont have my Fab yet, but on my scooby and other cars Ive had, just disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour would do the trick.

but please check with someone with more specific fabia knowledge before you do so :)

Any idea if this would work? if so er any advice :)

as i said, pretty sure it will work (but wait for confirmation), and to do it simply disconnect the battery - as easy as that !!

i felt my car was muuuuuch better after its 10k service.... so i would give it more time...

Think I will but can the ECU limit you much? sorry have no clue I only drive :( also looked under bonnet and cant even see battery thats how bad I am lol

It's under the cover in the battery box, looking from the front it's on the passenger-side.

Careful not to snap the clips (as the dealer managed to do so) ;)

My wife has a week old Furby vRS and it doesn't feel anything like as quick as the car we test drove, i reckon it will loosen up a lot when it gets some miles on. Though sometimes i do suspect some demo cars are not quite standard. Its still V good though and she loves it.

Make sure all of your turbo pipes and such like are connected properly. One guy on seatcupra.net had this complaint with his Leon TDI, being noticably slower than a friends Golf TDI (of the same power), and when he had it looked at, one of the pipes had worked its way loose. Pretty common problem. The standard one should kick pretty hard. I dont buy this rubbish that a dealer would mislead customers by giving them test drives in remapped cars and not telling them - this would surely open up the floodgates to dozens of complaints, and apart from anything else, surely the trade descriptions act would be breached too....

The one I test drove was the one I was buying not an ex demo though so wasnt that hopefully and yeah it maby just needs wearing in there is a slight kick in second but not much on any other gear were the 04 would kick in all

Going to try the battery and see how that goes.

It took a good 1k miles before it was anywhere near 'normal' - I've got 13k on the clock and the 10k service definitely loosened it up a bit more.

Took my Octy a month to figure out how I wanted it to go, now it's got the idea it's MUCH better :D:thumbup:

Taken off the battery well one side hope that does the same trick, then realised my car wont lock without it so looking out the window snarling at passers by that look dodgy :)

mine just had it's 10k service.... In my opinion it takes about 10k for the car to run in, it's running better now than it ever was before, let your new one loosen up a bit, it'll speed up :) (remember a very hot day will slow it down too!)

I had this after my 20K service (the work obviously required disconnecting the battery 'cos my stereo needed re--tuning). The motors need to know where the upper and lower limits of the travel are.

I think the fix was:

for each front window

hold the button down to drop it fully, and keep holding the button down for a count of 5, then release

hold the button up to raise it fully, and keep holding the button up for a count of 5

Can do this or just open and shut them using the "global" function with the key held in the open position in the driver's door until the windows are fully open and then held in the closed position until the windows are fully shut... :D

Thankyou very much that did the trick. think its worth taking it to the dealer about lack of boost?

if you really think the car is running less boost pressure than it should be then yes, take it back to the dealer...

did you disconnect the battery for long enough for the ECU to reset ?

If you did rememeber that it will take some time for the car to adapt to your driving style, and it will only adapt to a fast driving style if thats how you are driving!

If you drive sedatley for the next 500 miles and do a lot of motorway cruises at 70 or so then it likely wont be so aggressive.
