Anyone else's parking sensors allergic to rain?

Featured Replies

When it is raining or has been, my parking sensors become convinced I'm about to crash into something and go on solid alert tone, and red on display.

Anyone else had this issue? Any known fixes apart from obviously wiping the ruddy things every time they are wet??!!!

Cheers!

Yes...Its a a common annoying thing.

They soon dry out and behave again

Mine are the same.  One, or sometimes two, show red on the display as soon as reverse is engaged but the other 3 or 2 work correctly.  However, the solid tone generated means that I have to look at the display for guidance rather than just listen for the usual change of tone.  I think the problem is dirt rather than just water.  Cleaning the sensors solves the problem.

A friend with an 2008 Audi A4 Avant doesn't have this problem.

As above its a common problem. I found a pressing a piece of tissue paper on each sensor the easiest option as it only takes a few seconds and soon soaks up the water trapped round the edges of the sensor in the rubber gromets. Seems to happen to me more if I park facing downhill

Its just water...Not dirt

Otherwise it wouldn't do it on mine :giggle:

since having my dpf and stage one remap done mine have been a nightmare, clogged up with soot!

I've seen many comments about this and having recently replaced two which had died I find it hard to believe water ingress is the problem as they are sealed units.

The wiring too looks to be quite well tucked away from road spray and the connectors are rubber sealed fitments.

More likely they are verging on failing and rain on the surface is the trigger or have a film of something on their surface, try a small soft bristled brush to gently clean around the sensor.

I have one that does it too.

Mine have done this many times in the 4 years I've had the car and every time they misbehave there has been heavy rain

They are not failing.....or they would have done a long time ago

@ChrisRs

I meant failing to the point that the ultrasound transceiver works fine when the surface is dry but not when wet... eg. low output/faulty manufacturing/whatever.

How about giving them a good scoosh with WD-40 and see what like.

The offside front on the Scout has the same problem in heavy rain.

Might be different on my Mk1 Superb, but I got well and truly fed up with the original equipment's erratic behaviour and three sensor failures in less than a year.  Replaced the lot for £11.95 and it's been 100% reliable ever since.  Dad had the same fitted to his Corolla about three years ago and they've never missed a beat.

Here's my tale:

It was a problem on my Mk2 Octavia vRS, always beeping after it had rained, and was like that from brand new.

Don't have the problem with my S4.

...and have oily deposits on my bumper? No thanks mate... I can live with it :giggle:

I have had the same problem with the offside front sensor, but only since the heavy rain we have had. It stays on all the time, but doesn't happen all the time.

I also have the same problem but it goes away when dry. Like V6TDI, I also replaced my previous Superb Mk1 sensors with cheap ebay items and they worked fine, but they were definitely dead.  The vRS ones work fine other than the rain thing.
