Retrofit sound generator?

Featured Replies

Now I know lots of people don't like it... but our early vRS TDI is one of the ones that doesn't have a sound generator (apparently it was only going to be on petrol cars originally but then Skoda changed their mind!).

So... is it possible to retrofit? Does anyone know?

Thanks! :)

How early is it as mine is a very early example and I've got it?

Interesting...when Andyvee and I had a vcds session sorting out the cornering fog lights on my vRS over the Christmas season, Andyvee noticed that there was no coding for the sound generator. I was going to ask the dealer when it's next in for a service about it, but you have unraveled the mystery of the missing SG. I'm personally not fussed about the noise maker so quite happy for it to be missing. As for a retro fit, it would be a factory part back order which could take forever, plus software and possible wiring loom. Not impossible I wouldn't have thought, but more of a faff than what it's worth.

Alot of hassle for potentially not a great deal of benefit (alot of people say the sound generator doesnt work so well on the diesel as the petrol....after all theres only so much that can be done to make a diesel sound more sporty). Id forget about it myself.

It would be cheaper to download a V8 soundtrack from youtube and play it via an SD card through the cars sound system  :giggle:

It is inceridbly irritating and comnpletely pointless.

Would it not be easier to fit a decent exhaust (Milltek are doing one) & get the real sound?

+1

I wonder if I can just pull mine out with all the cables and send it you! I'm really not that bothered for it!

Can the miltek system actually make a diesel sound better?

Nope. 1- Because a diesel already sounds top notch. Why would you want fake sound when you have a diesel.

and 2- Because an exhaust makes the exhaust noise different. Cant see it making the engine sound different.

Yes....http://m.millteksport.com/media.file.cfm?fileid=545

I know it's a 3.0 engine but it can still make a huge difference.

You say yes, but then your link says No.

1- It sounds like a chavs car that has had too many baked beans, and has a paper bag over the exhaust, and so is doing one long constant muffled fart, and 2- It isnt effecting the noise of the diesel. Its just an intrusively noisy exhaust getting in the way of any other noise.

Im lost. The car already has a decent exhaust, and as he doesnt have the sound generator, he already has the real sound. The only thing i can hear with these funny milltek exhausts, is a fake sound.

So as the OP seems to want fake noises, its a case of what is cheaper

1- Fitting a sound gennie

2- Fitting a silly exhaust

Or, probably the cheapest option

3- Switch on the internet and watch a porno
