2005 VRS 38k - Whats it worth?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've pretty much asked the question in the title, but what would a 2005 vrs in red with 38k on the clock be worth? Went and looked at one today and quite liked it but am on the fence whether to go for an Octavia or Fabia. I have a lot of love for the 1.9 pd lump though!

Thanks :)

At that age and mileage I would be looking at £4.5K at a garage and maybe 3.8 - 4K privately for the Fabia.

I would check that the timing belt and water pump had been changed within the last year or two at most, I would also check that the carpets particularly in the back were dry and that the back door, door seals had been done.

Other than that the rest of it would just be the usual stuff that you want to check before buying any car.

If you check out the Extremely useful Fabia 1 Topic it will also give you lots of good clues and hints too.

The Octy is a good car too so, I guess it's all down to your driving style and personal preference as to which you buy. Good luck!

Its massively overpriced then at 5950 at a garage down here! I shall keep looking ;) Thank you for the helpful pointers :)

More like about £3.3K MAX for an 05 private, the garage figure from Coffin Dodger above is about right though.

Given the big difference, why on earth would you buy anything other than privately. You could still afford to have a major mechanical (e.g. gearbox, turbo) and still be cheaper than an Arthur Daley. Don't get it myself personally. At that price I'll have 2 please !

38k is very low mileage and dependant on spec. Go look what spec is on it too. Things like heated seats. Cruise control. Projector headlight soon bump up the value. Dont forget they put a higher price than they want to allow for people to knock them down on price

also different areas of the country have different prices ive noticed

How can you say that without knowing the condition of said car?

With 38k on the clock it could be a mint showroom condition VRS, which are rare to find.

It looks immaculate. The interior still looks white to be fair to it (I saw one a while ago and it had brown seats!) The car has cheap tyres all round though! I didn't have enough time to test drive it but I'll call them for info tomorrow.

Cars unfortunately are overpriced down here. Travelling nets you a healthy saving. I have to be honest, if I went for a fabia I'd probably want the Limited Edition one.... but the seats don't look very supportive! The one I saw did not have heated seats or projector headlights, nor cruise control!

Face it, the Fabia mk1 is now a MINIMUM 7 years+ old model now. I'd be far more concerned at having a poorly maintained, "low mileage" car.

Unless its been garaged unused for all that time - extremely unlikely to be honest.

Sounds like a possible shopping cart and hence blowing out the water your concept of "mint showroom condition". Well mine came out the showroom with strong healthy pistons not a weak car from lack of use !

Very misguided this low mileage fixation.

I know what you're saying! My 2008 Civic has 39k on the clock so its ripe for the clutch to let go. Should have purchased a higher mileage one! Though to be fair, Honda will sort clutch out up to 7 years / 125k.

Who says its poorly maintained?

What aspect of anything the person thats seen it says its not a mint show room car?

I'd Snap someone's hand off for a £5,000 fabia in good condition with 38k on the clock if it had good service history put it that way.

3.3k max? LOL wake up and smell the fresh air pal.

Id expect over 3k for a higher millage one still

Personally i would say those miles and if it is very good condition in and out £5500 would be a great price at a garage and would easily be worth 4800-5000 private. Im no expert but a quick look on auto trader etc would tell you that its around the current price.

As a barometer, SWMBO paid £4200 for her '05' vRS, 1 (mature) owner, FSH, heated seats, updated stereo. Tyres all very good, body excellent, no tears or marks on the interior. That was at the end of last summer, mind you.

Sorry but I think £3.3k is in cuckoo land unless you are VERY lucky.

If there is anything you see in the Mansfield / Chesterfield area that crops up, let me know and I'll pop and cast an eye over it for you.

Reality Check: 07 sold for just under £5k and that was from a garage:

Dealers can price whatever they like particularly if they think someone will pay for it, pandering for the misguided "low miles" (brittle pistons/no service) brigade.

But privately its only worth what someone will pay for it, personally if I have £4k+ to spend it would be looking for a 2007 SE (private obviously).

The dealerships appeal to me purely so I can trade my Civic in. I don't want the faff of trying to sell it privately. Warranty on the purchased car doesn't worry me too much with the VAG lumps as I've had nothing but good experiences with them!

I'd love an SE, but I've never seen one for under £6k regardless of milage or condition, unless it was a cat C, which there seems to be loads of round here unfortunately!

I'd want VCDS on hand to log in to the car and check the mileage is genuine. ;)

4k a year is really low, and not usually the sort of mileage you would buy a diesel to do.  :)

There is one on this forum for sale for £5,150.

Sensible miles for a nearly 7 year old diesel too.

The SE cost about £12,500 list price nearly 7 years ago.

Most people ask too much for them as they are percieved as rare and THE mk1 VRS to go for IMO.

But they are just too much money at £6k+ for a car that's getting on a bit now.

A budget warm hatch holding half it's new value after nearly 7 years is amazing.

Shows how well liked they are that people are prepared to pay it.

The closest VRS to me from a dealership is 5k on a 07 plate with 90k on the clock! Not sure how reasonable that makes the other places price!

I wasn't aware vagcom had a way to show you if the mileage is genuine? Please explain? I have it still from my bora days !

I have a real thing for blue cars..... how I landed up with a silver civic I don't know. I'll claim sickness!

Somebody on here has been smoking crack!

3.3k lol

Worth 5k due to mileage all day every day (private)

6k at a garage probs

You can get a deal. I got a 05 plate with 48k on the clock for 2800 quid. It needed bushes, door lock repair, but it had already had a new turbo, cambelt and water pump done. Car has fsh and does have a couple of tiny marks. If I sold it now I would want 4k.

I'd want around £2500 for my 2005 with 125k on. It has got seat surgeons leather etc but still I can't see that adding much. I'd say closer £5K myself

If you have a genuine VAG-COM interface - since renamed as a VCDS interface - then mileage can be read on some diesels as below.
